It’s that time of the year again — the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is took place at the Lexington Armory in New York City Wednesday night! Before the models hit the runway, InStyle.com went backstage to find out what goes into making a VS Angel. We spoke to makeup artist Dick Page and hairstylist Orlando Pita, who gave us all the details on this year’s looks — along with tips on how you can recreate it on yourself. “I kept the makeup really light and transparent this year, because it would be weird if the makeup was super crazy-glamorous, and then they have underwear on,” Page told InStyle.com. “Besides, they’re all very pretty young women, so they don’t need much more makeup. That’s the simplest thing you can do.” Take an exclusive trip backstage in our gallery to see how everything came together, then catch the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on CBS, airing December 10 at 10 p.m. EST.
Exclusive: Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Goes 3D With Lindsay Ellingson’s Snow Angel Costume and WingsNov 13, 2013 @ 5:38 pm
For the first time in Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show history, a design crafted entirely with 3D printing technology made its way down the glittering runway! As part of the Snow Angel section of last night’s annual show in New York City, model Lindsay Ellingson walked down the catwalk in her Nicholas Kirkwood pumps wearing a lasered nylon geometric filigree encrusted with millions of micro-Swarovski crystals. Commissioned by Victoria’s Secret and Swarovski, the two partners tapped into architect Bradley Rothenberg and designer Duann Scott of the world-leading 3D printing company, Shapeways, to create the design-breaking creation that was five months in the making. “Upon seeing the designs we were sure that Shapeways could 3D print exactly what they were looking for – all we needed was a 3D model,” Scott said to InStyle.com. What happened next was a digital scan of Ellingson’s form was taken so Rothenberg and Scott could create a costume built to fit her exactly. “For this project specifically, we really wanted to push what we could do with 3D printing — in making something that could, at some times, act like a textile, while at other times become more of a structural form,” Rothenberg added. Mission accomplished! Tune in on December 10th on CBS to see Ellingson, Lily Aldridge, Karlie Kloss, Doutzen Kroes, Adriana Lima, Behati Prinsloo, and Candice Swanepoel walk down the runway!
Barbie has undergone a holiday makeover, thanks to famed milliner Stephen Jones. As the latest designer to take on Barbie, Jones has created head-to-toe couture looks for the doll, which will be sold exclusively at Selfridges in London. The British hat maker has designed five custom looks for Barbie in homage to the holiday season: Happy Holly Barbie, Toffee Ice Barbie, Snow Globe Barbie, Santa Baby Barbie, and Christmas Tree Barbie (she lights up!). The milliner—a favorite of Kate Middleton, Victoria Beckham, and Rihanna—not only created statement fascinators for Barbie, but embraced the holiday theme for each of her overall looks. “Barbie is the most fabulous private client. She came into the salon for her Christmas morning hat and left with five glamorous outfits!,” Jones said in a statement. “Barbie and I have the same design vision; we love tradition, but have an eye for the future.” Jones joins a long list of fashion designers and brands who have dressed the doll, including Hervé Léger, Coach, Prada, Burberry, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton. These holiday-decked Barbie dolls have certainly got us in the seasonal spirit. Look for them starting November 15th for $399 at Selfridges and selfridges.com.
Jennifer Love Hewitt is designing a maternity line! The mother-to-be (she’s due next month) recently collaborated with A Pea in the Pod to create a 15-piece capsule collection featuring casual pieces from maxi dresses, leggings, soft tees, to a French terry jacket. We weren’t surprised when we found out that the 34-year-old actress designed a collection with the maternity wear retailer, she kind of hinted at it when we caught up with Hewitt at the Pamper’s Love, Sleep, & Play event in New York City this past August. “A Pea in the Pod has kept me very, very stylish and comfortable which has been nice,” she said. “I have enjoyed finding my maternity clothes, I still do a mixture of maternity and non-maternity, it’s been nice to find good pieces that have sort of fit the bump well.”
As for her personal maternity style, Hewitt let us in on the secret to dressing while pregnant and you’d be surprised to learn what she discovered. “What I’ve really realized is that the bigger you get, the better to go a little bit tighter in the clothing because there is a purpose for it,” she said. “Otherwise you end up looking like you’re in this gigantic tent and you’re this floating tiny head with this big body,” she laughed. Hewitt isn’t the first celebrity to design a capsule collection with A Pea in the Pod, she joins Nicole Richie, who launched her boho chic maternity line “Nicole” back in 2009, and Heidi Klum, whose line ”Lavish” came out in 2010. Not bad company! We don’t have long to wait for Hewitt’s baby to arrive, but we have till March when her spring loungewear and weekend line, “L By Jennifer Love Hewitt,” hits A Pea in the Pod and select Destination Maternity stores and online at apeainthepod.com.
How do Kelly Ripa, Sarah Jessica Parker, Shakira and Naomi Watts keep their sleek shapes? By hitting the dance floor! The stars are all dedicated to a movement-centric workout created by celebrity trainer Anna Kaiser. “It’s my new fitness obsession. I am here four times a week minimum,” Ripa told InStyle.com at the launch party for the new AKT inMotion Studio in NYC, where she heads for her workouts. “I think [Kaiser] understands the human body in a really profound way. She studies the human body, and so I think she’s been able to even my body out. I was a little crooked all my life and I never even knew it.” But the workout — a combination of everything from yoga and dance to strength training and plyometrics — does more than burns calories. For Ripa, she’s reaped the benefit of learning new skills that she’s taking with her outside the gym. “When we go out, I’m on the dance floor the entire time, because I feel like I have skills now,” she jokes of how the workout has taught her coordination. But what is no joke is the work that she and other stars put in while sweating it out during a session. “At the end of class, we take our shirts and ring them out and it’s disgusting,” she says. And when it comes to maintaining her regime outside the studio, Ripa says it’s all about moderation and making sure you’re enjoying life—just not overdoing it. “For me, I work so hard to maintain it, to blow it all on a piece of cheesecake doesn’t make any sense to me,” she says. “What does make sense to me is an extra glass of wine. That’s sort of how I look at it — it has to be worth it, and an extra glass of wine is worth it!” Can’t make it to Kaiser’s NYC studio? Try out Kaiser’s 10-minute butt workout , and stay tuned for a series of DVDs that are also in the works.

Alexander McQueen’s Skull Scarf Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary With A Buggy Update From Damien HirstNov 13, 2013 @ 10:43 am
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the brand’s iconic skull scarf, Alexander McQueen has collaborated with British artist Damien Hirst to launch an exclusive collection of scarves in honor of the original design. Since making it’s debut in McQueen’s spring 2003 Irere collection, the scarf has become a signature accessory of the house seen on a multitude of celebrities — Beyoncé, Johnny Depp, Kim Kardashian, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Nicole Richie to name a few — and it’s popularity shows no sign of letting up. One of the most coveted accessories of the past decade, the scarf is also a lasting symbol of the spirit of McQueen himself, who passed away in 2010. The Damien Hirst x Alexander McQueen scarf collection consists of 30 designs, each adapted from Hirst’s Entomology series. Butterflies, bugs, spiders and other insects have been worked to form kaleidoscopic geometric shapes, laid out to create the trademark McQueen skull motif in a variety of different designs. We are loving this new take on the house’s classic piece! Shop the limited-edition collection starting November 15th, with prices ranging from $515 to $1175, at Alexander McQueen stores worldwide and on alexandermcqueen.com.
