On Saturday at New York City’s famed Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, the worlds of comedy and philanthropy joined forces at The Michael J. Fox Foundation Gala, aptly-titled A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson’s. The foundation, founded by the actor in 2000, aims to develop more treatments and an eventual cure to Parkinson’s disease through scientific research. A-Listers including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Julianna Margulies were in attendance, and the gala manages to get bigger and bigger every year. “I think people get excited about how close we’re getting to a cure and all the progress we’re making,” Fox told InStyle exclusively. “This event is a celebration for everyone who has come to support us, and we have a good time, and we have lots of laughs.” The cast of The Michael J. Fox Show including Betsy Brandt and Katie Finneran came out to support their co-star, and with Dennis Leary hosting the evening, there was certainly no shortage of laughter. Comedians like Tina Fey, Amy Schumer, Seth Meyers, and Jim Gaffigan kept the momentum going with their hilarious sets, and Fey even donned her best Marty McFly ensemble for part of the event. The highlight of the night came when Chris Martin took the stage for the final performance, and the Back to the Future love became even more evident as Martin began playing “Earth Angel” on piano, prompting the couples in the room to slow dance. Michael J. Fox himself joined Martin onstage for a showstopping rendition of “Johnny Be Good,” bringing down the house and sending everyone to the dance floor. “I mean, who isn’t a Coldplay fan?” Tina Fey told us. “More importantly, Chris Martin is a 30 Rock fan!”
