Like mother, like daughter! It looks like designer Cynthia Rowley and her 14-year-old daughter, Kit Keenan, are two peas in one very fashionable pod. “She’s very stylish despite not knowing anything about labels or reading that much about it,” the designer told InStyle.com during her shopping event with The New York Foundling charity at her namesake boutique in New York City. “She has her own thing.” It comes as no surprise that Kit has already developed a great style sense; after all, her talented mother is known for her colorful clothing that includes neoprene-styled dresses and leggings (which reminds us of stylish wet suits), not to mention chic Band-Aids and a candy line named Curious. What we didn’t know about both of Rowley’s girls, Kit and 8-year-old Gigi, is that they both dabble in Mom’s area of expertise. “[Gigi] does crazy little drawings on dresses with the juice box appliqué, but then the older one is like, ‘I’m starting a surf gear business,’ and I’m like, ‘You’re in ninth grade!’ Rowley laughed. “Then she gets mad at me when I’m talking about adding to our wet suit collection, she’ll say ‘that’s my business!’” When it comes down to getting advice from Mom, Rowley admits that her daughter doesn’t ask for help, “she’s got it all figured out.” And what better role model to have than Cynthia herself. “I’m glad I make it look easy, because it’s not!” she said. Sounds like the surfing industry might have a new designer coming their way in the near future.
