Scandal’s Costume Designer, Lyn Paolo, Explains How Season 3, Episode 5′s Fashion Mirrors Olivia Pope’s “Seesaw Life”Nov 1, 2013 @ 5:13 pm
Olivia Pope stunned on last night’s Scandal, attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in a structured black and white Rubin Singer gown. Costume designer, Lyn Paolo, gave InStyle.com insider details on this look and how she purposely contrasted it with the sweeter chiffon gowns that we’re used to seeing Olivia wear. “We wanted a dress that was less feminine,” explained Paolo. “Because of what’s happening in her life and all of the new information she’s getting about B6-13, her dad, and Remington, I wanted this dress to have a harder edge to it.” Mission accomplished! But what shocked us even more was Olivia’s conversation with First Lady, Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young), who pleaded with Olivia to work on Fitz’s campaign again, knowing that Fitz can’t win an election without her. This episode also dug deeper into Operation Remington and introduced us to Democratic Congresswoman Josie Marcus, played by Lisa Kudrow.
