Chanel No. 5 is arguably one of the most iconic fragrances on the market, so it makes perfect sense that one of its biggest fans is the brand’s new face — Marilyn Monroe! Rather than opting for a hologram cameo, Chanel dug into their archives and found a never-heard interview from 1960 with Monroe and Marie Claire‘s then editor-in-chief Georges Belmont, in which the star gushed over the heady rose and jasmine blend. Monroe, who passed away in 1962, certainly didn’t keep her love of the fragrance a secret. While she didn’t appear in any of the label’s advertisements during her lifetime, Chanel No. 5 gained momentum following her first Life magazine cover in 1952. “Somebody was always asking me, ‘What do you sleep in, Marilyn? Do you sleep in PJs? Do you sleep in a nightie?’ It’s just one of those questions which make you wonder how to answer them,” she said. “Then, I remembered the truth is the easiest way out, so I said, ‘I sleep in Chanel No. 5,’ because I do.” Keep an eye out for the campaign rolling out in November, but in the meantime, check out Chanel’s tribute to the actress at chanel.com.
