All summer long, crop tops dominated. The shirting style has been so celebrated that baring your midriff has never been more appropriate—and the life cycle of the trend is far from over. Crop tops aren’t going anywhere (they showed up on countless spring/summer 14 runways), but designers—as they always do—reinvented the favored style and delivered a new approach to showing some skin. Maria Cornejo of Zero Maria + Cornejo delivered the look with a knit, Alexander Wang left little to the imagination by fastening a jacket in an overlapping position at the collar, and Anna Sui draped a blue and black printed top in a free-flowing style. The refreshing look even made an appearance in outerwear: Ralph Rucci delivered a metallic dress coat sealed at the chest and Marc Jacobs closed his decorated Victorian style topper just above the belly button. If you looking to nail the trend, here’s a tip: Ever wonder why some of your jacket zippers have two sliders? Question answered. It’s time to put that bottom zipper to use. So, zip up that bottom pull just below your chest and reinvigorate the midriff peek-a-boo craze.
