Sixteen years ago, Marc Jacobs was appointed creative director of luxury powerhouse Louis Vuitton with the goal to update the line’s conservative looks. “I was given an incredible amount of freedom,” he previously told InStyle. “A luxury brand must be based on quality, but it’s equally about pieces that delight. Luxury is a whim that tugs at your heart.” And he succeeded, reviving the 159-year-old brand with rich, desirable (and at times, fearless) pieces without completely losing touch with the brand’s heritage. With each collection, Jacobs has blazed the trail, setting the tone for every season. And while the spring/summer 2014 show served as his swan song (which referenced previous shows with one set), we also took a look back at his remarkable tenure at Louis Vuitton. See our five favorite looks from standout collections above, and click through for five unforgettable moments, from covetable collaborations to stellar runway backdrops.
It was all about George Clooney and Sandra Bullock at last night’s Gravity premiere at New York City’s AMC Loews Lincoln Square. The duo celebrated their highly anticipated lost-in-space thriller directed by Alfonso Cuarón, which opened the Venice Film Festival back in September. Bullock, who wore a white draped Giambattista Valli dress, stars in the film as Dr. Ryan Stone, a medical engineer on her first shuttle mission along with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (Clooney), who both get disconnected from the ship during a routine spacewalk and find themselves stranded and free-floating through space. With no contact to Mission Control on Earth and their oxygen supply running out, the two must find their way back to safety. With Oscar buzz already starting for the actress’s performance, it looks like this film might be one of Bullock’s most thrilling role yet! Catch Gravity in theaters everywhere on October 4th.

It’s as if the holiday season came early! Just this week, Saks Fifth Avenue‘s Off 5th, the discounted off-shoot of the retailer, announced the launch of their e-commerce site, saksoff5th.com. The online site offers the latest from the runway discounted up to 55%, including men’s and women’s ready-to-wear clothing, footwear, handbags, beauty products and accessories. After clicking through the new site, we selected our favorite pieces to create a chic on-trend look consisting of 1) a leather-trimmed sweatshirt, 2) a high-waisted full skirt, and 3) cap-toed loafers, which totals around $200. Check out the gallery for details on each, as well as a few accessories that are guaranteed to upgrade the look instantly (we couldn’t resist).
Over the past few months, Lily Collins has risen in the sartorial ranks—just take a look at her Mortal Instruments: City of Bones press tour outfits for evidence (middle). And while we’ve been smitten with her ever since she first walked the red carpet for the Blind Side (left) in an age-appropriate patterned sheath dress and her signature bold brows to boot, our admiration for her has grown due to her ability to wear trends without losing her sense of style. So it came as no surprise to hear that Collins was named Lancôme’s latest global brand ambassadress, as the global beauty brand consistently taps the style savvy to front their campaigns (most recently with Emma Watson). Collins’s first order of business for the brand will be to front their French Ballerine makeup collection in January—check out the behind-the-scenes photo above. We can’t wait to see the final images!

It’s safe to say that the Britney Spears we’ve grown to know and love is back! The 31-year old singer premiered her latest music video for “Work B**ch“ on The CW last night, the first single from her eighth studio album, which is due out this December. Spears proved she can still dance whether she is in the desert or a club, wearing a bikini or a pink and blue Georges Chakra silk cut-out gown standing in a pool filled with sharks. In the Ben Mor-directed video, the singer also paid homage to Las Vegas, where she will begin her two-year residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino starting on December 27th. As the new performer on the strip, seasoned Las Vegas veteran Celine Dion gave some words of advice for Spears during an ET Canada interview reported by People. Dion advised Spears to “find a balance between the artist that she is and the mother, and to try and find an emotional balance to cope with those two and be the best of both worlds.” Looking back on Spears’ near-15-year career, we’re confident she’ll know how to…work it.

New Girl star Zooey Deschanel is no stranger to indie music and her alter ego Jessica Day is no exception! On last night’s all-new episode, Jess wore Stop Staring’s Neyla dress, named for Neyla Pekarek of the folk rock band The Lumineers. “These dresses have a vintage vibe but are made in heavy stretch fabric so that the fit is perfection!” the show’s costume designer, Deb McGuire, told InStyle.com, who “Jessified” the look with a red belt and cardigan. Score Jess’s dress now for $190 at modcloth.com and use code InStyleNewGirl for 10% off from 2pm on October 2nd through 11:59pm on October 3rd—exclusively for InStyle.com readers.

MAC! Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have teamed up with the beauty brand to create a line of color cosmetics inspired by one of their past collections. “Beauty has always played a huge role in what we do on the runway, and MAC has been one of our biggest supporters,” the duo said in a release. “We wanted to create something that the Proenza Schouler woman could relate to off the runway, and the MAC brand is so deeply-rooted in fashion that we knew they would understand our vision.” We can’t wait to see the products, which are sure to be decked out in the label’s trademark prints, and the promotional image at right certainly has our minds running with possibilities. The Proenza-approved ombre face powders, lipsticks and lip liners, eye pencils, and nail lacquers will arrive at MAC locations and maccosmetics.com next April, but stay tuned for more sneak peeks as the launch date approaches!
