Ever since Mad Men hit the small screen, all of the leading ladies and gents have wowed both on-screen courtesy of costume designer Janie Bryant and off-screen with their impeccable sartorial choices. With the show heading into its seventh (and final) season we’re starting to feel a bit nostalgic, which is why we’re looking back at their first-ever Emmys appearances to see just how far they’ve come — especially the youngest Mad Men member, Kiernan Shipka, who made her adorable Emmys debut at just 10 years old. Take a walk back through Mad Men memory lane by clicking through the gallery to see them at the Emmys then and now.
Kerry Washington, Christina Hendricks, Zooey Deschanel and Julia Louis-Dreyfus had one thing in common tonight: They all carried Edie Parker clutches. While we spotted most of these pieces on the red carpet — the brand’s signature acrylic style is hard to miss — we couldn’t take our eyes off the stage when Louis-Dreyfus accepted her Best Actress in a Comedy award with her Veep co-star Tony Hale snapping into character as her loyal, bag-carrying assistant Gary by holding her clutch on stage. The design you spotted on stage is the brand’s Jean style, which all four stars wore in varying sizes and colors. Why were they such a hit? Designer Brett Heyman credits their functionality. “Our unique, handmade clutches complement the gorgeous red carpet dresses without overpowering them,” said Heyman, the former Director of Public Relations for Gucci who launched her handbag line in 2010. “They are practical and roomy, but not cumbersome. But most importantly, the clutches look incredibly chic and cool! Like a piece of jewelry or wearable art.” Similar pieces are available for $995 and more at bergdorfgoodman.com.

Over the past few days, we’ve been posting sneak peeks straight from Rose Byrne‘s stylist, Penny Lovell, documenting how the duo has been prepping for the 2013 Emmy awards, and the many gowns, heels, bags, and nail polishes Lovell sent through always kept us guessing. Ultimately, Byrne and her stylist opted for a custom design by Calvin Klein for the big night, but the chic pictures Lovell snapped along the way offered no shortage of style inspiration. We even got a sneak peek at Byrne’s glam squad — hairstylist Harry Josh and makeup artist Kate Lee — who made sure her glamorous waves and berry lip were ready for her walk on the red carpet. Guiliana Rancic showed off her $1 million Forevermark ring for two hours during the Emmys 2013 pre-show, and that was just the start of the 2013 Emmys Bling Ring. The New Girl star Zooey Deschanel matched her pale blue Chanel ring to her J.Mendel gown, while Girls star Allison Williams layered on a 19th-century Fred Leighton pink topaz rock to her cobalt Ralph Lauren look. But the biggest sparkle came from — no surprise here — Sofia Vergara, who accessorized her cherry Vera Wang dress with a 40-carat emerald ring set in platinum. She added on another 21-carat diamond and platinum ring and earrings covered in over 100 total carats of rubies, sapphires and emeralds for a total look worth over $7 million.

How long does it take for a runway look to make it to an awards show red carpet? In the case of this year’s Emmys only ten days! Kiernan Shipka (in Delpozo), Kerry Washington (in Marchesa), and Jessica Paré (in Oscar de la Renta) all wore dresses that appeared on the catwalk during the spring 2014 shows at New York Fashion Week (that’s less than two weeks ago) with Allison Williams wearing a gown that was inspired by a look supermodel Karlie Kloss wore at the Ralph Lauren show. Talk about fast fashion! Click the photo above to see the fresh-off-the-runway dresses both at the shows and on the stars.
During the 65th Emmy Awards, actress Jane Lynch gave a touching tribute to the late Cory Monteith and reminded us of how much we miss the Glee star. The 31-year-old Canadian actor passed away suddenly in Vancouver this past July, and sent fans and Hollywood into a state of shock and mourning. Monteith first charmed his way into everyone’s hearts as the lovable Finn Hudson, William McKinley High School’s star football player turned New Directions singer on Glee back in 2009. “I wasn’t like Finn. I didn’t really go to school as much as he does,” he once told InStyle.com. “I cut a lot of class, so I’m glad things worked out as well as they did!” It was on the very set of Glee that Monteith met his girlfriend, Lea Michele and they quickly became one of the most adorable couples on the red carpet and we can’t help but remember one of our favorite Cory moments, when the couple got ready for the SAG awards together in January. The actor told us, “Lea’s dress? It’s stunning. I am the luckiest man!” We miss you, Cory!

We’re obsessed with Padma Lakshmi‘s gorgeous look on the red carpet tonight–and there’s a story behind it. When discussing options with her makeup artist, Kathy Jeung, Lakshmi referenced the German model, Veruschka in the ’70s. “So with that as our inspiration, we created a modern version: soft blended bronzing with a pop of pastel color on the eyes and a neutral full lip was another nod to that look of that era,” Jeung told us. After prepping her skin with Koh Gen Do Cleansing Water ($39 at sephora.com) and La Mer Soft Cream ($285 at lamer.com), Jeung applied her foundation with a Stilazzi brush ($25 at stilazzi.com) and the Beauty Blender ($19.95 at sephora.com). first saturated with water, excess squeezed out to leave sponge moist (makeup artist tip!). The shimmery eye is from Christian Dior 5 Couleurs in Stylish Move ($60 at dior.com) and the retro lip is a combination of Giorgio Armani 203 ($34 at giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com) topped off with Guerlain gloss in 45 ($34 at sephora.com).
Emily Deschanel made quite the fashion statement at the 65th Emmy Awards red carpet with an all vegan look from her dress right down to her shoes. The Bones actress wore a custom Houghton one-sleeved gown—a label designed by Katharine Polk—in blue floral lace with a soft tulip skirt and belted waist, finishing off her look with a pair of custom vegan dyeable peep-toe Aldo pumps. Deschanel and her sister, New Girl star Zooey Deschanel, will both be presenting an Emmy together during the Neil Patrick Harris-hosted ceremony. Tune in tonight on CBS at 8 p.m ET/ 5 p.m. PT to see who takes home the golden statuette at the Nokia Theatre in L.A.
