America’s favorite pastime has hit the runway! At New York Fashion Week, it was clear that designers drew inspiration from the ol’ ball game and topped off spring/summer 2014 looks with baseball caps. In fact, InStyle Fashion Director Cindy Weber Clearly confirmed it when she first spotted them at Lacoste: “Why am I suddenly into baseball caps?” But we’re not talking about team memorabilia here. Designers have stepped up to the plate, stripping baseball caps of team colors and insignia, and instead, putting their own spin. Amy Smilovic (of Tibi) accessorized her collection with Italian-made wooden baseball caps and Felipe Oliveira Baptista (of Lacoste) color-matched hats with outerwear, Kate and Laura Mulleavy (of Rodarte) turned them backwards for a street-cool vibe, and Donna Karan (of DKNY) dressed them up with printed bandanas. Minimalist and nondescript, baseball caps have hit the major (fashion) leagues.

Pet selfies: yep, it’s an actual thing. And while celebs like Marc Jacobs, Lauren Conrad, and Zooey Deschanel certainly didn’t start the trend, they do have some of the most stylish pets we could find on Instagram — which is how they came to be nominated in that very-named category in InStyle‘s first-ever Social Media Awards. Check out the nominees (which also include the adorable pups of Amanda Seyfried and Mariah Carey) and vote for your favorite by this Sunday, September 15 at 11:59 p.m. ET, when polls close. Be sure to hashtag your support using #InStyleSMAs, and look for the winner in December on InStyle.com and in that month’s issue.
