We love Zac Posen and we want him to be our new best friend. Fresh off receiving the designer of the year award at the 10th Annual Style Awards, the New York-based designer joined renowned chef Eric Ripert for his latest episode of ‘On The Table’ to talk about his career over ginger tea and cook his go-to dish of rice with sea urchin, squash, and eggplant (yes, the designer of gorgeous gowns can also cook everything from sea urchin to reduction sauces). 4:24: Posen discusses his early years in design back when he started sewing at the young age six.

8:19: His first foray into the design world (Naomi Campbell was one of his first big supporters) and ultimately his design process.

14:54: “When I’m building a gown and I’m on my mannequin and its a euphoric, orgasmic experience.”

15:17: “For me, I start draping and my team sketches off of it, they get inspired by it, I get inspired by them and then we pass them to the pattern makers in the studio,” Posen explained. “Then, I use tape to redraw the lines on the bodies so that they cut and lay in the same place. I use a crayon to mark out places where I want to take away lines and I have extra fabric if I need to add volume or texture.
