Dakota Johnson - Fifty Shades of Grey

It’s official: Dakota Johnson will play Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey! The steamy novel has made serious waves since first hitting shelves—or slightly more discreet e-book downloads—followed by various spin-offs (an off-Broadway musical spoof of the story ran on the Great White Way earlier this year, and Bobbi Brown was so inspired by the book, she launched a limited-edition collection in appropriate smoky tones). Johnson will star opposite Charlie Hunnam of Sons of Anarchy fame, and while we eagerly await more sneak peeks as filming begins, we rounded up three facts below that you should know about her—we think you’ll be seeing a lot more of the star before the movie hits theaters next August. Scroll down to see all the info now!

SHE’S MELANIE GRIFFITH’S DAUGHTER
Dakota is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she made her film debut in 1999, starring alongside her mother and half-sister Stella in Crazy in Alabama. “Dakota is a very, very sweet girl,” Griffith told InStyle previously.

SHE WAS MISS GOLDEN GLOBE IN 2007
Johnson handed out out trophies to Golden Globe winners at the 2007 ceremony. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association chooses a different honoree each year, and more often than not, the son or daughter of one of Hollywood’s elite.

SHE PREVIOUSLY APPEARED IN THE SOCIAL NETWORK AND 21 JUMP STREET
If Johnson looks familiar to you, you may remember her from her roles in 21 Jump Street, The Five-Year Engagement and The Social Network. She played Fugazy, an undercover agent in the 21 Jump Street remake, and Jason Segel’s girlfriend Audrey in The Five-Year Engagement. Her most notable appearance was in the Facebook-inspired flick The Social Network, where she played college student Amelia Ritter, who had a moment with Justin Timberlake’s character Sean Parker of Napster.
