Now that’s one way to get us excited for the upcoming season of Revenge! After watching the promo for the show’s third season above, so many questions ran through our minds. Who shot Emily Thorne? Will she bounce back, or is this the end? And most importantly — was that a wedding dress she had on? We were too eager to wait for the premiere on September 29  to find out, so we just had to call up costume designer Jill Ohanneson to get all the details on the dress. Her secret for finding the perfect one? Design it herself. “After hearing about what would happen, the dress required so many elements that I knew we weren’t going to find any one piece that would do everything we needed, and since we had three weeks of prep time at the beginning, I found the fabric, did three or four sketches, and designed it myself,” she told InStyle.com exclusively. “I know Emily likes very slim silhouettes, but I also knew the producers and directors wanted the fabric to float around her when she fell into the water. To make that happen, I started with a slim silhouette and built around it with tulle, since it’s lightweight and floats well.” The climax of the preview — i.e. where Emily gets shot — was another factor that pushed Ohanneson to personally design the dress, as multiple versions were needed. “To go out and buy four wedding dresses would have been too costly, especially to get something worthy of Emily Thorne’s taste,” she added. “We ended up making four gowns — we kept one perfect, we had to build one for a stunt girl, and we made two more that can take the blood hits. We saved the original since we’d have to shoot a wedding down the line.” Our minds are racing with the possibilities! Scroll down to see an exclusive sketch of the entire dress, then find out what happens on the season three premiere of Revenge, September 29 at 9 PM EST on ABC.
