New One-for-One Denim Brand Kicks Off on Kickstarter: BluerJun 5, 2013 @ 11:15 am
If you like the one-for-one model of Warby Parker glasses and TOMS Shoes—in which the companies donate one item for every item sold—now there’s one for denim with the launch of BLUER. The company just debuted its first collection on the online fundraising platform Kickstarter, which shows off its jeans, jackets, shirts, and accessories for both men and women. And, like Warby and TOMS, for each pair of $95 jeans sold, one will be donated with your help. “My goal is every time somebody buys a pair of jeans, they bring an old pair of jeans from their closet and turn them in [to be donated],” the company’s founder Jeff Shafer told InStyle.com. How it works: BLUER will pay for the shipping of your old jeans, wash them, and give them to people who are in need—while also giving you a $5 credit toward your next purchase.
That’s why BLUER is making it easy for you to buy the jeans. The company allows you to pick any three styles to be shipped directly to your door at no charge. You have 14 days to decide if they’re a fit, and you won’t be charged until you choose to keep them. “The idea of being able to have jeans sent to you and try them on in your living room with any shirt or any pair of shoes and not be rushed into making a decision is, in my opinion, revolutionary,” Shafer said. You can also take comfort in knowing the company supports American manufacturing, as all denim is produced at the Cone Denim Mills White Oak plant in Greensboro, North Carolina. “At the end of the day, we get to make a tremendous product at a great price that also has the opportunity to create jobs and do something on a social level,” said Shafer.
