Louise Roe Tells InStyle All About Her Fashion Star Outfit, Week 3

Mar 22, 2013 @ 5:15 pm

I wanted to play with a more interesting silhouette with my clothes for the third episode of Fashion Star, but still have a hint of old Hollywood glamour. So, for hair and makeup, my one-woman-amazing-glam-squad Rachel Wood teased and pinned my hair into a voluminous side bun for a retro feel. For makeup, we kept clean and contoured on the cheeks, and added a thick black liquid liner inspired by Audrey Hepburn to my eyelid. My top was sparkly and cut low under the arm, which worked nicely tucked under the high-waist of my Lublu leather skirt. It was super-tight, I could barely breathe! But, I loved the hourglass effect the tulip skirt created. Finally, sky-high gold sandals by one of my favorite shoe designers ever, Brian Atwood, finished off the high-gloss look.

Hair Moment of the Weekend: Al Pacino as Phil Spector

Mar 22, 2013 @ 4:00 pm

The biggest hair moment happening this weekend won’t be on any red carpet—instead, it’s the premiere of HBO’s Phil Spector, a film about the ‘60s music producer and his 2009 trial where he was convicted of murder. In the film, Al Pacino portrays the music man—who had worked with the Beatles, Tina Turner, and the Righteous Brothers during his heyday—and all his various looks, from electrocuted wigs and ombre styles to the voluminous curls he wore to the series of trial dates that followed his criminal act. As time progresses, his styles get more over-the-top (and spot-on) especially when juxtaposed next to Helen Mirren‘s immaculate waves as his lawyer, Helen Kenney Baden. Tune in to see the film yourself on HBO, Sunday, March 24 at 9 p.m.

Mythbuster: Celebrity Stylist Cristina Ehrlich Sets the Record Straight About Horizontal Stripes

Mar 22, 2013 @ 2:00 pm

Cristina Ehrlich is Hollywood’s go-to expert for putting together solid outfits—she’s behind the some of Hollywood’s most stylish, including Amy Adams, Ashley GreeneJulianna Margulies, Tina Fey, and rising style star Allison Williams—which means she knows exactly how to pick pieces that have longevity. That’s why Coldwater Creek signed her up as their Guest Stylist for the next three months—and we caught up with her in the label’s New York store to get her keen eye on spring trends. Her biggest tip: Don’t be afraid of horizontal stripes. “I really want to help women understand that stripes do work on all body types,” she told InStyle.com. “There’s a sort of myth and fear that horizontal stripes are going to make you look bigger, and it’s really not true.” Instead, a horizontal stripe on top just needs a perfect pairing, she explained. “It’s about understanding how if have print on top that you have solid on bottom, or if you want to wear a printed bottom you wear solid on top.” Words that her clients Williams and Fey clearly live by!
