Breakfast at Tiffany’s on Broadway: How Costume Designer Colleen Atwood Created the New Holly Golightly

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is opening on Broadway tonight—and if you’re thinking Audrey Hepburn and lots of little black Givenchy dresses, think again. Performed for the first time on the stage, Breakfast the play takes more of its inspiration from Truman Capote’s tragic novella than the romantic blockbuster that followed. And yet, thanks to Academy Award-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (of Chicago and Alice in Wonderland fame), this production is just as chic, with good-time girl Holly Golightly (Game of ThronesEmilia Clarke) in scarlet frocks, retro chapeaus, and, yes, one perfect LBD. Read our exclusive interview with Atwood, in which she talks about Emilia, Audrey, and styling your own little black dress like Holly, after the jump. More

Dallas Season 2, Episode 9 Fashion: Elena’s Red Hugo Boss Coat (and More!)

Mar 20, 2013 @ 3:49 pm

Dallas had a celebratory moment Monday night with the opening of the new drill site—and that’s why costume designer Rachel Sage Kunin knew she wanted Jordana Brewster‘s Elena (with Jesse Metcalfe’s Christopher and Patrick Duffy’s Bobby) in the bold hue. “Elena is popping in this red Hugo Boss overcoat,” Sage Kunin told InStyle.com. “The inauguration for the alternative energy drill site called for celebratory color. I knew the weather was going to be cold so finding something bright but warm was a must.” Click through for more from Sage Kunin on last episode’s looks.

Parties Pics: Saoirse Ronan and Diane Kruger Premiere The Host

Mar 20, 2013 @ 3:00 pm

Saoirse Ronan (in Lanvin) and Diane Kruger (in Thakoon) debuted their new movie The Host last night at the premiere held at the ArcLight Hollywood in Los Angeles. The film (open March 29) is adapted from Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s novel, which centers on Ronan’s character Melanie, a young girl who refuses to give up her mind to enemies who want to use human bodies as their hosts. And there’s a romantic element as well: ”There’s a lot of kissing with co-stars Max Irons and Jake Abel, which sounds a bit sleazy, but it’s only because I’m playing two characters,” she told InStyle. “At least that’s the excuse I’m going with.” See more photos from last night’s hottest parties in the gallery.

Pretty Little Liars: Costume Designer Mandi Line on How She Picked That Red Coat

Mar 20, 2013 @ 1:57 pm
Pretty Little Liars finale Red CoatCourtesy ABC Family

Last night’s Pretty Little Liars finale was epic! Not only did we (maybe) learn that the “late” Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) is alive and well, but also that she might also be the infamous scarlet trench-lover, Red Coat. (Gasp!) But then we hopped on the phone to talk to costume designer Mandi Line, and she said we shouldn’t be too sure just yet. “We know that Red Coat is a female, because the writers just gave me the go-ahead to let her wear heeled boots,” said Line. But didn’t Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Hannah (Ashley Benson), and Mona (Janel Parrish) see Alison last night? “Maybe! Wait until you see the episodes coming up, though—it could go it any direction!” And for such an integral character, Line had to pick just the right cherry topper. “I didn’t want it to be too tailored, and I wanted it to drape nicely, so it had a little swing [when she walked],” said Line. “It couldn’t be too fashionable. It had to be able to take on [the action scenes]. Plus, I wanted it to be a nice blue-red, so it would complement a number of skin tones.” A number of potential A’s! Find out who’s who when Pretty Little Liars returns this June.
