Tuned In: Rachel Zoe Talks InStyle and Karmin Raps on The Rachel Zoe Project Tonight

Mar 13, 2013 @ 5:02 pm

A lot is happening on The Rachel Zoe Project tonight! Zoe defends the maxi dress (a look that’s not performing as well as her boho heart would hope), and she styles Karmin for their Coach music video shoot (and Amy Heidemann drops a spontaneous fashion rap). But we’re most excited to announce that the super-stylist will be name-checking InStyle in tonight’s hour! (We love you, too, Rachel!) Watch the video below to see Heideman’s awesome, impromptu rap, and tune into Bravo at 9 pm EST to hear more from The Zoe.

Nashville’s Hayden Panettiere Is as Obsessed with Connie Britton’s Hair as the Rest of Us

Mar 13, 2013 @ 4:00 pm

Nashville‘s Hayden Panettiere gets to spend a lot of time looking at her co-star Connie Britton’s glorious head of strawberry curls—but that doesn’t mean she’s any less obsessed with it than the rest of us. “Her hair is unreal and real, it’s a thing,” the actress said at a Nashville panel during PaleyFest in Los Angeles. “There’s a picture of her in the makeup trailer with her son, Eyob, over her shoulders. And Eyob’s so beautiful, but I almost didn’t notice him because of her hair! So, yeah, it’s a thing.” And you can see how you’d look blessed with Connie’s lustrous mane, too. Simply upload your picture into our Hollywood Makeover Tool and ta-da—you’ll have Connie’s enviable tresses without ever stepping into a salon. Then tune into Nashville Wednesdays on ABC to see Britton’s Rayna James ‘do in action (and swoon).

Take a Break: Watch Tilda Swinton Star in David Bowie’s Music Video

Mar 13, 2013 @ 3:05 pm

David Bowie’s first album in 10 years—and 27th to date—came out this week, The Next Day, and we’re celebrating by playing his new video for ”The Stars (Are Out Tonight).” The music and fashion icon cast fellow fashion superstar Tilda Swinton to star as his wife alongside him in the nearly six-minute short, where they play on both of their signature androgynous looks. (Fun fact: There is a Tumblr dedicated showing David and Tilda’s similarities named Tilda Stardust). Given Tilda’s “push-the-boundaries” red-carpet style, the moments of her in A-line dresses and ’80s white eyeliner in the housewife role are jarring, though it’s entertaining to see how similar they do appear in the moments where they are both stripped of costumes (fast forward to 4:17). Watch the video above to get the full effect, and scoop up Bowie’s new album, out now.

Plus, get style advice straight from Tilda Swinton. Aren’t you curious what she has to say?

Inside InStyle‘s February issue, we spoke to Jessica Alba about starting her eco-friendly family brand, The Honest Company—and now, her first Honest book is on sale to go with it. The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You is the actress’s tip-filled guide to all the lessons she’s learned along the way to becoming an environmental entrepreneur, from when she started creating “high-performance and safe” products to when she lobbied Congress to support the Safe Chemicals Act. “I’m a mom on the go, and I have to do a million things,” said the actress, who has two daughters, 4-year-old Honor and 1-year-old Haven (pictured). “I’m not going to sit there and read every single ingredient on every single package I buy, and I don’t think other parents are either. Creating this company was something I had to do.” And sharing her experience is, too! To learn more about Alba’s natural way of living, pick up The Honest Life for $16 at barnesandnoble.com.

New Jewelry Shopping Site We Love: ShopBevel.com

Mar 13, 2013 @ 1:00 pm

Online shoppers, we’ve found your next addiction: ShopBevel.com. The site just launched a month ago, and it’s quickly becoming a new go-to for jewelry—both for designers (you can submit your designs to get made) and shoppers (you can vote on the pieces you want to see get made). “We’re like an American Idol for jewelry designers,” said founder Courtney McColgan, inset, who concocted the idea when she was at Stanford Business School, and then brought it to life thanks to some backing from Great Oaks, the same people behind viral shopping sites warbyparker.com, modcloth.com, and bonobos.com. Here’s how it works: Every week or so, ShopBevel holds contests. Designers submit sketches for a certain theme (think emerald or gold or neutrals), then users can vote on the ones they want to see get made, so you get a say in what you see on the site. ShopBevel then goes and produces the pieces—no middle man required—and you get it for straight-out-of-the-factory prices (i.e. these chandelier earrings are $20 and the blue and gold necklace is $36) with a super-limited-edition touch (only 100 of each design gets made). “It’s gratifying to see whole production cycle work, from voting to production to selling,” McColgan added. “It makes you appreciate the little bracelet on your wrist that much more.” Visit shopbevel.com to try it yourself.

Congrats, Emilia Clarke! The Game of Thrones Star Makes Her InStyle Look of the Day Debut

Mar 13, 2013 @ 12:00 pm

For Emilia Clarke, March is all about debuts! The Game of Thrones actress scored her first spot ever in our Look of the Day roundup with this chic-fierce combination of a moto jacket, white mini, and strapped sandals for a Letterman appearance—just the sort of thing we could imagine Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen wearing (if she lived in modern times). Plus, the brunette beauty is making her Broadway debut, too, taking on the role Audrey Hepburn made famous as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (already in previews). And Thrones is set to return to HBO with its third season premiere on Sunday, March 31. Everything’s coming up Emilia—here’s to seeing more of her great style.
