SXSW Fashion Trend: Tangerine Dreams With Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and Michelle Monaghan

With graphic black-and-white outfits making a strong appearance at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas this week, we’re thrilled to see some color contrast in the mix thanks to Selena Gomez in (Dolce & Gabbana), Ashley Benson, and Michelle Monaghan (in Roksanda Ilincic). The citrus-y hue was popular last year when Pantone named it the Color of 2012 (a title emerald green has claimed for 2013), and it’s an anything-but-subtle look you can try, too. Bright and bold, tangerine looks best worn in solid blocks. Stick to a classic silhouette and experiment with fun, high-contrast accessories for day or accent with basic black for a chic evening look.

Ben Affleck Plans Since Winning His Oscar: “Take It In and Not Do Anything!”

It’s been good to be Ben Affleck! Fresh off his Best Picture Oscar for Argo, the director who swept the 2013 awards season is celebrating his win with some much-deserved R&R. “I’ve been able to just really enjoy my good fortune the last couple of weeks, to sit back and kind of take it all in and not do anything,” said Affleck at John Varvatos’ annual benefit for Stuart House, an event co-chaired by his wife, Jennifer Garner. And since he can skip the designer suits, he’s been enjoying sweet snacks. “I’m eating ice cream on the couch! It’s been a really nice time to hang out with my wife. We’re enjoying it.” A good family and a philanthropic heart—we bet that feels good!

Get the Look: Step-by-Step Instructions for Recreating Olivia Wilde’s Burgundy Smoky Eye

Not only did Olivia Wilde‘s Gucci number from the Los Angeles premiere of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone win our Look of the Day, but her smoldering purple shadow is giving us serious makeup inspiration, which is why we chatted with her makeup artist Melanie Inglessis to get all the details. “We decided to do something a little edgy to make the look more rock and roll,” she told InStyle.com. “I saw a lot of metallic burgundy makeup on the runway, so we added that color to keep her makeup current.” Inglessis smoothed on a primer to start, then traced Wilde’s top and bottom lash lines with Revlon‘s ColorStay Eyeliner in Black ($7; ulta.com). She followed with the Smoky Shadow Stick in Torch ($9; ulta.com), using the darker hue to fill in the star’s lids. Picking up the deep burgundy from Revlon’s Eye Shadow Quad in Precocious ($8; ulta.com), she blended the color on top of the cream shadow, and into Wilde’s crease. “Keep your makeup below your lid,” Inglessis added. “Don’t take the smoky eye all the way to your brow bone or too far out—just define the natural shape of your eye.”

Last Night’s Parties: Padma Lakshmi and Susan Sarandon Raise Awareness for Endometriosis

Padma Lakshmi (in Monique Lhuillier) brought along pal Susan Sarandon to help her host the 5th Annual Blossom Ball at New York City’s Capitale, which raises awareness for the organization the Top Chef host co-founded, The Endometriosis Foundation of America. The EFA strives to increase recognition of an often-misdiagnosed disease by facilitating training and funding research. Dallas Season 2, Episode 8: What They Wore to Say Goodbye to J.R. Ewing

Last night’s Dallas was an emotional hour—the series said goodbye to its iconic iron patriarch, J.R. Ewing, a character played by the late Larry Hagman in both the original and sequel series. To honor both J.R. and Hagman, costume designer Rachel Sage Kunin made sure that each actors’ memorial look just right. “This is a significant occasion that required the utmost attention to detail,” said Sage Kunin. “The Valentino jacket that Elena is wearing has a dark brocaded body and black paillettes around the neckline. Thanks to Jordana Brewster, Elena has a knack for keeping pieces looking feminine yet still strong.” Click through for more from last night’s Dallas.

Elle Macpherson is headed down the aisle! New Girl’s Max Greenfield and Jake Johnson Have the Cutest Bromance

New Girl star—and InStyle‘s April cover girl—Zooey Deschanel gets a lot of attention for her feminine fashion statements. But we think her handsome co-stars, Max Greenfield and Jake Johnson, look just as stylish—and according to Johnson, that’s thanks to Greenfield’s willingness to dish out his style tips. When we caught up with the boys at PaleyFest, they broke down their style bromance for us, and it’s a world of awww:

Jake Johnson: “Max gives me advice. He’ll tell me what to wear and what not to wear. We’ll be in wardrobe and they’ll give me three options, and he’ll pick my shirt—I don’t do anything.”

Max Greenfield: “He just needs a little help. Sometimes he’ll just come in with some cutoff corduroys and a tank top, and I’ll say, ‘That’s not only inappropriate for work but for life. You’re an adult man, you know? You’re not the Big Lebowski.’ I will say this: he’s a great student. Look at him tonight, he looks fantastic.”

Johnson: “I’ll tell him not to wear something, but he’ll wear it anyway and everyone will be like, ‘Your cardigan looks so handsome!’ I’ll be, like, ‘Dude, those jeans look too tight, don’t wear them,’ and everyone else will be, ‘Great jeans!’ This whole world confuses me.”
