J.Crew Lovers, This Is for You: An Exclusive Video Peek at J.Crew’s New Italian Shoe Collection

Mar 11, 2013 @ 7:00 pm

We’re crazy for J.Crew‘s brand-new Italian Shoe Collection, and we’re not the only ones. The beloved brand’s creative director (and self-proclaimed footwear enthusiast) Jenna Lyons gives InStyle readers a peek inside the making of the luxe new line in this exclusive video. Watch the clip above to see the flirty Etta pump transform from a simple sketch at J.Crew‘s New York City headquarters into what J.Crew calls a “shiny pony” in the hands of skilled craftsmen in a small workshop in Pisa, Italy, where the collection is brought to life. “Anyone who thinks that a shoe isn’t informative about who you are is making a mistake,” quips Lyons, as she shows off the Italian Shoe Collection’s jeweled flats, sequined heels, and super-soft suede pumps. The entire collection, priced between $125 and $378, is now available in stores and online at jcrew.com.

The Bachelor Finale Is Tonight! Find Out What Catherine and Lindsay Wear to the Final Rose Ceremony Dress (and Why)

On tonight’s Bachelor finale, Dallas insurance agent Sean Lowe will choose between graphic designer Catherine Giudici or substitute teacher Lindsay Yenter, and we caught up with the show’s stylist Cary Fetman to get the inside scoop on the ladies’ final looks. “Catherine and Lindsay have such different tastes, but they chose very similar gowns by the same designer—David Meister,” Fetman said. “Since we were taping the finale in Thailand, I brought a lot of dresses that would fit the exotic location in tropical colors like red and blue with chiffon, but they both wore stretchy, metallic gowns.” Catherine opted for a gold metallic knit one-shoulder gown ($590, davidmeister.com), and Linsday chose a silver lame racer-back look (no longer available). Fetman kept the accessories simple for both women. “It was hot and muggy, so I wanted to tone down the jewelry,” he said. “It’s all about the dress.”  So, who do you want to Sean to pick: Catherine or Lindsay? Tell us by voting in the poll below, and tune in tonight on ABC at 8 p.m. to see who gets the final rose on the three-hour finale.

SXSW Fashion Trend: Black and White (And It’s a Look You Can Wear, Too)

Mar 11, 2013 @ 4:26 pm

Over at the South by Southwest Film and Musical Festival in Austin, Texas, plenty of new movies and tunes are debuting, but one classic trend is holding steady: black and white fashion. Olivia Wilde (in Dolce & Gabbana), Ashley Benson, and Genesis Rodriguez, all on-hand to premiere their latest films, worked the tones in tandem, and they made each lady look cool and confident. It’s a reassuring palette—especially when organized in crisp grids or lines, like Wilde’s Dolce number. But if you try the trend yourself and want to lessen the impact, add another color, like Rose Byrne, who paired her pinstriped A-line skirt and white accessories with a peach Balenciaga button-down blouse. (Tip: You can also add color with a bright pump or bold lips.) But remember, you don’t need much makeup—just filled brows and contoured cheeks; let your sharp outfit take center stage.

It was an Oscar couples reunion at John Varvatos’s 10th Annual Benefit this weekend, where Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts, Ben Affleck, and Jennifer Garner were all on-hand to support Stuart House, a treatment center for children who have suffered sexual abuse. Garner began her involvement with the cause eight years ago, and now she and her husband are co-chairs of the benefit. “She told me about what she saw at Stuart House and what the children had to go through after being subjected to these kinds of assaults, and how important it was to have people there who were caring and thoughtful and going to do this the right way,” explained Affleck at the benefit, held at Varvatos’ boutique in West Hollywood. The event featured a live auction to support the House, as well as a performance by Aerosmith. “You just see the outpouring of people that want to be part of such an important cause and to me that’s the most important thing that we’ve done over the last ten years,” host Varvatos added. “To really raise the awareness and raise money to support helping these young kids.” To find out how you can help Stuart House, visit 911rape.org.

Jayma Mays’ Raven + Lily Necklace: “Getting the Word Out” for Women’s History Month

Mar 11, 2013 @ 2:07 pm

Last week, Glee‘s Jayma Mays announced her partnership with apparel and accessories brand Raven + Lily to support female fashion designers from around the world in need of help in honor of  Women’s History Month. And she continued to spread the word this weekend at the Milk + Bookies 4th Annual Story Time Celebration when she wore the spring collection’s Elsabet necklace, a piece created by an HIV-positive Ethiopian woman designing to stop the poverty cycle in her country. “The beads are actually made from bullets that are melted down—bullets found in the area [where the designer lives],” Mays told InStyle.com. “The organization helps women all over the world.” Shop the exact necklace Mays wore for $79 at ravenandlily.com, and learn more about Jayma’s partnership in this video message.

Target’s Next Designer Collaboration Has a Charitable Touch, Thanks to Lauren Bush Lauren’s FEED USA Partnership

Mar 11, 2013 @ 1:34 pm

Target is known for its amazing designer collaborations—Missoni, Prabal Gurung, Gwen Stefani, to name a few—and now, it’s adding a charity element to its next big partnership: FEED USA + Target. The retailer teamed up with Lauren Bush Lauren’s FEED organization to create 50 limited-edition pieces set to hit shelves this June, including home goods, stationery, apparel, and accessories with prices ranging from $3 to $400. Most importantly, the Target line will incorporate the main element that made the FEED charity so popular: Each sale will directly feed children. Sales from the Target line will benefit Feeding America, a national hunger-relief charity, and even better, each product will features a number on it showing exactly how many meals it provides. “Through product sales, we hope to provide 10 million meals to Americans in need, which would make it the largest U.S. initiative in FEED’s history,” Lauren said in a statement. “I am proud that we will be able to empower guests to make a measurable impact through the purchase of the FEED USA + Target collection.” Support the cause by Tweeting the hashtag #FEEDUSA and by shopping the collection, in stores and on target.com starting June 30th.
