Marilyn Monroe was more than America’s most famous sex symbol—she was a style icon who continues to inspire generations of women. With her legacy in mind, Macy’s announced it will launch a line inspired by Monroe, with pieces ranging from $29 to $89, in stores and macys.com this March. “Marilyn Monroe’s appeal is legendary, and Macy’s is excited to launch a collection that draws inspiration from her timeless style,” Macy’s chief marketing officer Martine Reardon said in a statement. Taking cues from the ultra-girly style Marilyn was so famous for, the line includes tie-front crop tops, cherry-patterned sundresses, and, of course, polka-dot and halter-style dresses that cinch at the waist, inspired by her infamous white dress from 1955′s The Seven Year Itch. Click through the gallery to see all the extra-girly styles.

Love the pieces! Sad to think they won’t be available in anything larger than a size ten even though Marilyn was 12/14.

Moni, you do realize that size 12/14 was quite a bit smaller in her heyday? Marilyn’s waist measured at 23 inches. A size 12/14, nowadays, measures anywhere from 32 to 40 inches.

in 1955 the women clothes are not too short before the knees.. Marylin Monroe never wear very short dress.. don’t look right those picture . 1955 the women dress all the way over their knees.

Funny how thin the model is that they used for the collection. You would think that a line inspired by Marilyn Monroe would be showcased on a model with curves. Also, half of the collection on the website looks like the same things that are currently trendy… the only thing that makes it Marilyn-esque is that the model is wearing a Marilyn-like hairstyle. Not impressed.

Marilyn was 5 ft 5 1/2 inches tall. She weight 117 lbs. The mannequins at the 1999 Christie’s auction were size 4′s. So just because the dress label said size 12/14 doesn’t mean she was a big girl. She was small and petite, and a size 4 by today’s standards. She had curves, but they were in her bra and panties, not her gut. A 23-24 inch waist is small. And the outfits in these photos are Marilyn-esque because they are based on fashions she wore. The first photo is reminiscent of her casual wardrobe while in Canada shooting a movie in 1954. They shortened her jeans to modernize it, but it’s similar. The cherry print dress is a nod to her famous cherry print dress from the movie the Misfits. And the last outfit is a shorter copy of the black and white dress she wore for the Byron or Baron (I can’t remember) photo session in the garden and evergreen trees. They added a little red jacket to it probably because she also wore a red pantsuit for this session too.
