Mad Men’s Megan Draper (played by Jessica Paré) is more than just a character—she’s a muse! Don Draper’s wife was award-winning costume designer Janie Bryant’s main inspiration when she went to work on the new capsule collection for Banana Republic, which hits stores and bananarepublic.com February 27, and we’ve got a peek at the first six looks in the collection. “The green and blue shift minidress is a dress that Megan actually wore in the promotions from last season,” Bryant told InStyle.com. Prices for apparel range from $50 to $140 for women and $45 to $375 for men, with accessories starting at $30 for women and $45 for men. See the first complete looks (including the show’s main attraction: the perfectly tailored men’s suit), along with their character inspirations, in the gallery.

Why InStyle Loved Gucci’s Feathers and Sequins for Fall

Feb 21, 2013 @ 4:40 pm

Fashion Week is now in Milan—and InStyle‘s Fashion Director Cindy Weber Cleary is right there with it! Every day she picks her favorite look from the shows, and today it was this stunner from Gucci‘s fall lineup. “Over the top? Yes. But in a good way,” says Weber Cleary. “This elaborately feathered and sequined dress by Gucci’s Frida Giannini is destined to appear on a red carpet, pronto!” Fingers crossed we’ll see it at the Oscars this Sunday!

Scandal Tonight: Olivia’s “Feminine and Romantic” Escada Gown

Feb 21, 2013 @ 2:53 pm

Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) may be unlucky in love in Washington D.C.—she has dysfunctional relationships with both the President and Senator Davis—but on tonight’s all-new episode of Scandalshe’ll be playing matchmaker to another high-profile politician, played by guest star Eric Mobius. For this pivotal episode, costume designer Lyn Paolo outfitted Pope in a black and white Escada dress, which she called, “a transitional gown” that “echoes” Olivia’s previous two gowns featured on the show. “Originally, we saw Olivia in a sleek Calvin Klein gown, then we moved to a more romantic-feeling Jean Fares gown with a full skirt and a lot of beading,” Paolo told InStyle.com. “Now, because Olivia’s life and loves are once again in turmoil, we have transitioned to a gown that is both black and white, feminine and romantic, with a lace paneled back but from the front a geometric strong shape and silhouette.” We love the of-the-moment choice, reminiscent of Julianne Moore’s striking Tom Ford gown at this year’s Golden Globe Awards. Tune in to Scandal tonight at 10 p.m. EST on ABC to see what happens when Olivia Pope & Associates tackle date night, and Olivia gets set up herself by Navy captain turned spy, Jake (played by the always adorable Scott Foley).

Runway Looks We Love: Gucci

Feb 21, 2013 @ 1:20 pm

For fall 2013, Gucci‘s Frida Giannini presented a powerful collection filled with strong, structured looks. The dark lineup included high-shine fabrics like python and patent leather in rich autumnal hues. The designer, weeks away from giving birth to her first child, offered women an array of modern daytime looks like body-conscious dresses and sleek suiting. For evening, the tone was all-out glamour, with a handful of embellished, illusion mesh gowns begging to be worn on the red carpet. The accessories matched the structure  and gloss of the clothes, and included luxe top-handle bags, patent booties, and sexy ankle-strap stilettos. See our favorite looks in the gallery!
