The Bachelor Episode 7: Emily Maynard’s Favorite Looks

Feb 12, 2013 @ 3:31 pm

Watching Sean Lowe’s season of The Bachelor is extra fun, as we’re asking one of our favorite fashionable Bachelorettes, Emily Maynard (Lowe came in third on Emily’s season), to tell us which of the contestants had the prettiest outfits each week. Last night, Sean surprised three of the bachelorettes to watch sunrise in St. Croix at 5am. ”I loved how none of them were divas or made a big deal about it,” Emily told InStyle.com of Desiree, Catherine, and Lindsay. They threw on some shorts, a bikini, and ran out the door, and still managed to look so cute.” Click through the gallery to see the other outfits Emily loved most on last night’s episode.

First Look: Sephora’s Princess Jasmine Collection!

Feb 12, 2013 @ 3:27 pm

Princess Jasmine from Aladdin is the latest Disney princess to get a beauty line! Following Sephora’s first Disney collaboration for a Cinderella-inspired line, the retailer is launching “a whole new world” of rich jewel tones inspired by Agrabah’s leading lady for spring. Jasmine’s range includes fragrance, a nail polish set, compact mirror, eye shadow quad, a kohl liner trio, and scented body powder. The standout in the offerings? A 17-shade Storybook palette, which uses actual colors from the film stills repurposed as eye shadow. The Princess Jasmine collection hits Sephora stores and sephora.com in March. And since all the products are $55 and under, you can save your three wishes for Cinderella’s killer pair of Louboutins.

Runway Looks We Love: Donna Karan

Feb 12, 2013 @ 3:19 pm

“Sensual, soulful, sculptural,” were the three S’s Donna Karan used to describe her fall 2013 collection. Ranging from perfect-for-day relaxed trousers, crisp camel toppers, and sculptural evening gowns, the black and brown liquid designs floated down the runway with a power that was reinforced by the models’ dramatic and futuristic swinging ponytails. The result, a collection for women who “work with passion and dress with emotion,” said Karan, a description fit for designer herself. See our favorite looks in the gallery!

The Met’s Punk Exhibit Previewed Yesterday: Here’s What to Expect

Feb 12, 2013 @ 1:22 pm

From McQueen to Prada to punk! You’ll have to wait until May to see the Costume Institute’s new PUNK: Chaos to Couture exhibit, but press got to see a sneak peek yesterday—and sponsor Moda Operandi‘s Aslaug Magnusdottir was right there with us. “We’ll see in exhibition how pervasive punk’s influence has been on fashion and how it remains a powerful form of expression today,” Magnusdottir told InStyle.com. And co-chair Rooney Mara is living proof! From the bit we saw, you can expect patent leather and netted looks from Comme des Garcons and Rodarte. And remember that every exhibit is christened with the annual, ultra-glamorous Met Gala, where the red carpet will probably feature a lot more black this year. PUNK: Chaos to Couture will open at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 9th—will you be attending?

Update: The Met just extended PUNK‘s closing date from August 9th to August 11th, open 100 days total to honor Clash guitarist Mick Jones’ famous quote, “Punk only lasts 100 days in its purest form.” Sweet!

Julianne Hough Designs Shoes for Sole Society: See (and Shop) Them Now!

Feb 12, 2013 @ 11:50 am

We always thought of Julianne Hough as a triple threat—dancer, singer, actor—but the 24-year-old has more talents in her arsenal. The multi-hyphenate added designer to her superstar resume, teaming up with Sole Society to release a capsule collection of fun, go-anywhere shoes that just went on sale this week. “I’ve always wanted to create and make things,” she told InStyle.com of her design process. “I picked exact embellishments, buckles, and fabrics. It was really hands-on!” She created five styles—a peep-toe bootie (Angela), a T-strap flat (Addy), an ankle strap sandal (Gianna), bow flat (Maddi), and zipper sandal (Makenna), all named after her pals. “I think you will feel sassy and fun when you put the shoes on,” she added. “Fashion is supposed to bring out your personality and shoes are the best way to do that.” Click through the gallery to see all of the styles and colors, and shop them starting at $49.95 on solesociety.com and nordstrom.com. And stay tuned for more! She’s releasing additional styles over the next few months.
