A Human Forest Appeared at New York Fashion Week

Moncler Grenoble makes coats—really good, warm coats. So, the challenge every Fashion Week is to make the outerwear come to life on the runway. Since coziness isn’t something you can see, the company challenged its show attendees to feel it—transforming New York City’s Gotham Hall into a walk-in forest, only instead of trees were 370 men and women standing five rows and 30 feet tall to create the circular “human forest” shape. Each model wore a shade of green to create the tree-like effect, and a mirror slung from the ceiling reflected their images in a kaleidoscopic, repetitive way. Who knew you could make a skyline indoors?

What Was Olivia Wilde’s Most Memorable Red Carpet Ever?

Feb 12, 2013 @ 6:07 pm

Olivia Wilde’s Marchesa gown from the 2011 Golden Globes is on our list of unforgettable award show dresses, and it’s just as memorable for the star. “I always feel really honored to wear pieces like that because they really should be put in a museum, it was like a work of art,” Wilde told InStyle.com at the launch of Revlon’s ColorSilk Buttercream hair color. “When I walked out of my room the day after, the dress was sitting in the middle of the living room with thousands of pounds of tulle billowing out from under it, and it just looked like this incredible sculpture!” With a dress so big, she did have to make special accommodations. “I was driving home at the end of the night with all the tulle piled on my lap, and I had to create a window in the fabric so it wouldn’t block my view,” she added. “I was thinking ‘I hope I don’t get stopped,’ but I also could have been like, ‘Officer, look at this gown! Look at my Marchesa!’” Well, it is an arresting look, isn’t it?

Dallas Season 2, Episode 4: Pamela’s Chic Maternity Style and More!

Feb 12, 2013 @ 5:59 pm

A new Dallas aired last night, and the episode featured classic, contemporary styles and chic maternity wear—which is why we caught up with the show’s costume designer Rachel Sage Kunin to get all the details on Elena (Jordana Brewster) and Pamela’s (Julie Gonzalo) looks. ”Elena’s style is classic with a twist,” Kunin told InStyle.com. ”The feminine silhouette of the Issa dress paired with a red Tahari sweater fits Jordana Brewster’s proportions perfectly.” Meanwhile, Pamela Rebecca is pregnant with twins, but that hasn’t kept her from looking chic. “She is still looking fierce and sleek,” Kunin said. “Almost showing, she’s starting to wear shapes that are just a tad looser around the middle.” Click through the gallery to learn more about Dallas style!

Runway Looks We Love: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Feb 12, 2013 @ 5:21 pm

The big hair and glossy red lips were a dead giveaway that the fall Marc by Marc Jacobs collection was all about ’70s glam. As for the clothes, there was a cool mix of covetable daywear, like boyish button-downs, belted skirts, swingy dresses, and wildly-printed blouses. For evening, the designer offered a handful of clever alternatives to the classic LBD, like satin minidresses and suits. Boxy bags (perfect for 9-to-5) and wear-everywhere heels finished off the flirty lineup. Parties of the Week: Viola Davis and Emmy Rossum Premiere Beautiful Creatures and More!

Feb 12, 2013 @ 4:53 pm

There really were some Beautiful Creatures on the film’s New York premiere red carpet last night! Stars Emmy Rossum (in Christian Dior) and Viola Davis (in New York & Company) screened the film at the Tribeca Cinemas, and told InStyle.com how their fantastical costuming helped tell the boy-meets-girl tale with a magical twist. “A lot of who [my character] Ridley is, is her ability to manipulate people with the way she looks,” Rossum told InStyle.com at the event, hosted by The Cinema Society and Dior Beauty. “It was definitely very different than anything else I’ve ever played before, and a lot of the looks were very throwback, channeling Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth.” See the costumes for yourself when the film opens Valentine’s Day.

Runway Looks We Love: Preview Tory Burch’s Lineup for Fall 2013

Feb 12, 2013 @ 4:02 pm

With Gustav Klimt’s portraits as inspiration, Tory Burch delivered a romantic fall lineup filled with richly detailed, wearable looks. The collection focused on “24-hour dressing—special pieces to wear from day to evening,” the designer noted. To that point: a sequined skirt with floral pailettes looked modern and understated paired with a chiffon turtleneck. For a day-to-night swap, simply throw on the matching jacket. And, while the clothes were influenced by Art Nouveau, the accessories were all about insects, with beetles and dragonflies adorning pendants, earrings, bags, and shoes.
