Katie Holmes and her design partner (and stylist) Jeanne Yang debuted their new fall collection for Holmes & Yang to editors yesterday in an intimate setting held at the Palace Hotel in New York City. The collection was inspired by working women and mothers, Yang told InStyle.com after the show, an inspiration that lent itself to go-anywhere pieces for day and night and a wearable beauty look created by Bobbi Brown (fittingly, as Holmes is the face of the brand). “The best thing about our collection is that it does not need a lot of explanation,” Yang said. “The clothing speaks for itself.” It does—but it also speaks to Katie’s style, and she’s already eyeing some of the pieces she co-created for fall, like this plaid pencil skirt with an off-the-shoulder top (above left). “It is very flattering and shows off a woman’s elegance,” the actress said of the look. Celebrity-loved Parisian designer Vanessa Bruno (Rachel Bilson and Kate Bosworth are fans) is having a bit of a love affair with America. She just opened her pop-up shop in New York’s chic Soho neighborhood, and to mark the special occasion, she also designed a limited-edition sequin bag with an American flag on it. “The whole thing has the American flag on it, and we did 50 of them exclusively for the store,” Bruno told InStyle.com at the store’s grand opening last night. “We could have this kind of thing: 50 states in America, 50 bags. Voila!” The bags are $249 each, and available exclusively at the pop-up, located at 131 Greene Street (or call 212-228-1085).

Here’s an item to add to your Valentine’s Day wish list! Just in time for February 14, Coach is releasing their Coach Love fragrance, an airy blend of mandarin, freesia, jasmine, and sandalwood. “It’s the most romantic fragrance Coach has created,” said Karyn Khoury, Estee Lauder’s senior vice president of corporate fragrance development. “The scent is very streamlined in its construction, but it’s actually quite complex in the number of ingredients used.” Coach Love is housed in a sweet rose gold flacon, and we especially love how the brand’s iconic Cs are formed into a heart to give the logo the Valentine’s Day treatment. Shop the scent, priced at $52 to $92, at coach.com now.

Justin Timberlake took a break from preparing for his Grammy performance on Sunday, to enjoy a night out with wife Jessica Biel as they took in Darren LeGallo’s new art show “Nothing You Don’t Know” at the Trigg Ison Fine Arts Gallery in Los Angeles. Timberlake co-hosted the event with friend and former co-star Amy Adams (the two starred together in last year’s Trouble With the Curve), who is engaged to LeGallo.

In Side Effects, in theaters today, Rooney Mara plays a woman with severe depression who finds herself living in a nightmare when her medication leads to some unwanted effects. It’s not exactly a role that lends itself to elaborate costuming, but the actress took great consideration in how she wanted her character represented. “Costuming is so important to shaping the character,” Mara told InStyle.com at the New York premiere. “Me and Susan [Lyall], the costume designer, talked a lot about how we wanted her to be in comfortable, loose clothes because when I’m feeling sad or lazy, it’s hard for me to get dressed.” Screenwriter Scott Burns echoed her sentiment: “When people are depressed, they’re not as much about their sexuality as when they’re not,” Burns told us. And that was achieved through costuming, with the use of muted colors and baggier pieces. “It’s not like she’s wearing leather in Dragon Tattoo,” he added with a smile.
