Timo Weiland’s Runway Shoes: Sketch to Reality

Feb 7, 2013 @ 6:57 pm

The shoes are just as exciting as the clothes at New York Fashion Week—especially when we’re talking about Timo Weiland‘s heeled oxfords. The designer teamed up with Tsubo to co-design these ballet pink lace-ups with swirling heels for his runway show, and shared this sketch so we could see his process. “The inspiration behind these heels is ‘baroque military,’ but with a fun twist, like they’re on leave for the weekend,” Weiland explained. “The scrolls deconstructed the heels a bit, making them a fun match for these menswear-inspired oxfords.” Indeed!

Runway Beauty Looks We Love: Wildfox’s Great Gatsby-Inspired Hair and Makeup

Feb 7, 2013 @ 5:28 pm

The roaring ’20s got a modern-day update at the Wildfox winter 2013 presentation during New York Fashion WeekDesigner Kimberley Gordon looked to the prohibition era to inspire the label’s upcoming collection, channeling The Great Gatsby‘s Daisy Buchanan as a muse. “I never liked the ’20s when we studied the time period in high school, but I re-read The Great Gatsby recently and realized that the women and their whole lifestyle was so Wildfox—it’s about partying, champagne, and falling in love,” Gordon told InStyle.com backstage. And although the iconic styles got a 2013 upgrade, the hair and makeup remained a classic, wearable nod to the era. Click through to take a trip backstage.

Isabelle Fuhrman’s Fashion Week-Inspired Manicure

Feb 7, 2013 @ 5:20 pm

Isabelle Fuhrman’s manicure proves she’s ready for Fashion Week! The Hunger Games actress popped by Prabal Gurung’s Target launch last night wearing a piece from the designer’s LOVE capsule and this spring 2013-inspired nail art. “Because I’m going to shows this week, I wanted to get really fashion-y nails,” explained Fuhrman. “My thumbs are spring 2013 Louis Vuitton. And then the white stripe was inspired by Moschino. And then [the thicker stripes] are Marc Jacobs.” And she wasn’t done there: “And then I wanted a bow, I thought it would be cute. And then sparkles, because you have to have sparkles on your fingers.” What a clever spring fashion forecast!

Tadashi Shoji Is Launching a Fragrance

Feb 7, 2013 @ 4:23 pm

Tadashi Shoji’s 30th anniversary collection just hit the runway at New York Fashion Week today, and before the show, the designer clued InStyle.com in to his next big project—a scent! “We just signed our perfume,” said the designer, who is adored by stars like Octavia Spencer, Kate Beckinsale, and Nina Dobrev. “It’s coming next year. It’s a light floral, with rose and cucumber. It’s very light.” And it was important to him that it was wearable every day. “I tried it and I love it. Everyday I wear it!” Keep an eye out for his first-ever scent, due out in 2014.

Runway Looks We Love: BCBG Max Azria

Feb 7, 2013 @ 3:43 pm

On the first day of New York Fashion WeekBCBG Max Azria presented a gypsy-inspired fall collection with a decidedly modern feel. There were laser-cut leather hoodies, jacquard motorcycle jackets, laid-back yet luxe fur vests and, true to BCBG form, party-ready silk and tulle slip dresses. Neutral tones ruled the runway, with subtle accents of burgundy and navy, while each look got a dose of sporty edge thanks to cool girl wardrobe staples: cozy cashmere beanies and thigh-high leather boots. See our favorite looks in the gallery!

Coach Goes Street! See the New Drip-Covered Bag Collection by Krink

Feb 7, 2013 @ 3:36 pm

Coach has a cool new collaboration in the works! The brand just announced a capsule collection of men’s accessories with the special touch of Brooklyn street artist KR, the mastermind behind well-known art supply company Krink. (Fun fact: the name “Krink” came from KR’s graffiti tag plus “ink,” a special permanent paint KR created.) The lineup includes bags, wallets, and iPad sleeves, all adorned with the artist’s trademark drip aesthetic (which can be seen on walls in New York, Moscow, and even in a museum in Brazil) in colors like blue, red, and aqua. They range from $98 to $798, and will hit shelves and coach.com in March.
