Warm Bodies Opens : Why Nicholas Hoult Loved Being a Zombie

Feb 1, 2013 @ 12:58 pm
Warm BodiesSummit Entertainment

Opening today: Warm Bodies, an unconventional rom-com that has its good-looking lead looking quite undead! After a zombie epidemic infects the world, one of the human survivors Julie (Teresa Palmer) finds herself in the midst of a zombie attack, but is saved by one of them, Z (Nicholas Hoult). The two strike up a relationship, which sets in a motion a sequence of events that could change their entire world. “It’s a really unique story,” director Jonathan Levine told InStyle.com at the New York City premiere. “It’s really fun! It’s a new twist on a romantic comedy and I hope people will respond to the uniqueness of it.” And this fun off-beat vibe can be traced back to cast’s experience. “Every day we just laughed and had fun,” said Palmer. “I think that energy really translated to the film.” But the best part for Hoult? “Not having to learn a lot of lines!” Click here to see where the film is playing near you.

Donna Karan on the DKNY ’90s Styles: “They’re Just as Fresh Today as They Were”

Feb 1, 2013 @ 12:51 pm

DKNY’s ’90s styles are back in stores today! Reissues of the brand’s iconic NYC-screened tees, bodysuits, and dresses are back and available at openingceremony.us, so when we saw Donna Karan at last night’s New York premiere of Side Effects, the designer told InStyle.com how she really feels about the decade. “If the ’90s are making a comeback, God bless it, maybe I’ll have a good collection this season!” the designer told InStyle.com with a giggle. “To me, [those designs] are as fresh today as they were then. And that’s the beauty of what I try to do—clothes that are timeless, seasonless, effortless, iconic.” And no need to overthink your wardrobe choices: “I think sometimes fashion gets too caught up with itself. It’s just great clothes that you want to wear.”

3 Tips for Dressing Your Curves Like Katy Perry

Feb 1, 2013 @ 12:23 pm

Katy Perry isn’t afraid to play up her famous assets, often sporting ensembles by Roland Mouret. In InStyle’s February issue, the singer’s go-to designer gave us tips on dressing a curvy body. See below for his advice!

1. Mind the middle: “Defining your waist is essential.”
2. Consider a modest neckline: “A scoop or boatneck only hints at what’s underneath and balances a top-heavy frame.”
3. Be bold: “A vibrant color or quirky pattern provides head-to-toe interest, as opposed to directing the viewer’s attention to just one particular area of your figure.”

For more advice from Mouret and other designers to the stars, flip to page 144 of InStyle’s February issue. On the go? Download the issue on your iPad, Nook, or Droid tablet!

Side Effects: Rooney Mara and Catherine Zeta-Jones on Their Psych-Inspired Wardrobes

Feb 1, 2013 @ 11:28 am

Catherine-Zeta Jones and Rooney Mara looked ultra-glamorous wearing Michael Kors and Alexander McQueen, respectively, at last night’s New York premiere of their thriller Side Effects, hosted by The Cinema Society and Michael Kors. But for their roles in the movie—in which Mara plays a severely depressed woman with a secret and Zeta-Jones her former psychiatrist—their wardrobe took a more disturbed turn. “When I’m feeling sad or lazy, it’s hard for me to get dressed. You just want to be comfortable,” Mara told InStyle.com on the red carpet. “Me and [costume designer] Susan Lyell talked a lot about wanting [my character Emily] to be in comfortable, loose clothes. That was really important.” Zeta-Jones had a different approach. “It was a fine line, because I play a psychiatrist and am a woman,” Zeta-Jones said. “Obviously there’s a danger and a sexiness to my character. So we didn’t want to push it too much. I wanted to have some sexiness to her, but keep it in the realm of a doctor.” Wardrobe really does inform a character! The edge-of-your-seat film opens nationwide February 8.
