The Good Wife Fashion Details: Season 4, Episode 12

Jan 14, 2013 @ 6:43 pm

A new episode of The Good Wife premiered last night, in which Julianna Margulies’s character Alicia Florrick hit the campaign trail with her husband Peter (Chris Noth). ”Alicia is being drawn towards Peter and going back to having a physical relationship,” costume designer Daniel Lawson told InStyle.com. And as their relationship heats back up, Margulies’s wardrobe is taking on a more self-aware feel. “We can’t be overt about it, but we’re seeing her get a sense of her sexiness.” For her scene with Peter on the campaign bus, Lawson chose a body-hugging La Petite Robe di Chiara dress and cherry red Prada jacket. “This one is a very interesting,” Lawson said. “It’s all about seeing her in a bit of  sexiness. When you’re conscious of your wardrobe and your clothes touching your body, you’re more conscious of who you are.”

Golden Globes ManicuresGammaUSA; AFF-USA; MavrixOnline

In addition to the couture gowns gracing the red carpet at last night’s Golden Globe Awards, celebrities also got creative with their nails! Jessica Alba offset her otherwise peach-inspired look with a pastel pink manicure, Zooey Deschanel followed up last year’s tuxedo nail art with a movie reel pattern, and Adele went for a full-on metallic effect. Her manicurist Kimmie Kyees, who is also responsible for Katy Perry’s many fun nail designs, layered Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure in Copper Penny over a base coat of So Much Fawn ($8 each; target.com). Take a closer look at their nails, and see even more Globes manicures in our gallery!

It’s love at first sight! Target first announced that celebrity-loved Prabal Gurung would be its next designer collaboration back in October—and now we scored a full preview of his love-inspired lineup! “It’s about this girl falling in love from the time she first sees the guy right until the time they get married,” Gurung told InStyle of his inspiration. “I had this idea of a girl who finds her journal in her attic and she starts to go through it and remembers.” The 80-piece capsule includes floral frocks, patterned tops, and winsome accessories that tie in the Nepalese designer’s now-signature romantic style. “I hope the woman who buys my designs feels a bit of happiness and romance when wearing them,” Gurung said. The series premiere of the The Carrie Diaries airs tonight on The CW! A prequel to Sex and the City, the show follows a young Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) as she navigates the trials and tribulations of being a young teen in Connecticut and—of course!—Manhattan in the 1980s. The Carrie Diaries starts off in the midst of tragedy, as Carrie copes with the recent loss of her mother. As she struggles to find her place once again, her father suggests she begin an internship in New York City. “I think these are human experiences that we all have at different times in our lives,” creator Candace Bushnell told InStyle.com of young Carrie. “I know it’s hard to imagine. Just because there wasn’t cell phones doesn’t mean people didn’t communicate!” Catch the start of a new Carrie Bradshaw era tonight at 8/7c on The CW.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s First Bow Tie Collection Sold Out (Temporarily!)

Jan 14, 2013 @ 3:08 pm

At last night’s Golden Globes, we spotted Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the red carpet, looking typically dapper, but with one accessory noticeably absent. “This is not a bow tie from our line [Tie The Knot],” Ferguson told InStyle.com. “Because our first collection of bow ties sold out! So I thought it would be cruel to tease someone with something they cannot buy. This is a Hugo Boss tie that you can buy. It does not go for marriage equality, but still it’s very stylish and chic.” The line of bow ties in question, which Ferguson founded with fiancée Justin Mikita, benefits marriage equality—and speaks to one of Ferguson’s great sartorial passions. “I like bow ties because they are a little unique,” Ferguson told InStyle.com. “It’s easier to pull off kind of a wild fabric with the bow tie because it has a very limited real estate on your neck. I have always loved it. It’s a little left of center.Congratulations on the big sales!

Win a Trip Into Outer Space with Axe!

Jan 14, 2013 @ 2:32 pm

You read that right; men’s grooming brand Axe is letting 22 lucky people take one small step into the cosmos! The brand made the announcement last week at New York City’s Hayden Planetarium, where Buzz Aldrin, the first man on the Moon, was named spokesperson for their aptly-titled Apollo scent. “44 years ago I made the brave decision to venture into space, and it changed my life forever,” the astronaut said. “Now, you too can become a member of this privileged group, and experience everything that I have.” That’s one way to give the term “fragrance launch” a literal meaning! The Axe Apollo Space Academy will select 22 applicants to train in Florida, who will venture into low Earth orbit on their Lynx spacecraft. Trips are scheduled to last around an hour, reaching an altitude of 64 miles. (Fun fact: Space is only 62 miles from the Earth’s surface!) The contest is open until February 3 with flights taking place in 2014, so head over to axeapollo.com to enter! Plus, shop the full range of Apollo products, priced from $5 to $6, at drugstores nationwide right now.

Golden Globes 2013: Vote For Your Favorite of Julianne Hough’s Two Gowns

Jan 14, 2013 @ 2:15 pm

Julianne Hough did double dress duty at last night’s Golden Globe Awards! The dancer-turned-actress attended the show in a gorgeous cream Monique Lhuillier ballgown with gold embellishments, and a unique one-of-a-kind earcuff made of a fossilized carob beetle! After the show, Hough changed into a sleeker, more party-ready number by Jenny Packham for the InStyle after-party. Hough flaunted her figure in the curve skimming blush-hued gown, which featured silk panels and exaggerated shoulders. However, her dress didn’t last past the dance floor! “I love to dance regardless of how expensive a dress may be… You can’t hold me down!!!” Hough tweeted along with a picture of her ripped dress. Tell us: which look is your favorite? Vote in the poll below!
