Katie Couric is baring it all on her show tomorrow! She’s going makeup-free to interview Phoebe Baker Hyde, author of the new book The Beauty Experiment, where she gave up makeup, new clothing, jewelry and more. Instead of applying Katie’s beauty staples—like Lancôme concealer, Laura Mercier eye shadows and L’Oréal mascara—the talk show host is simply cleansing her face in the morning with Dove face wash and Lancôme moisturizer. “I’ve been on television for a while now, but this is a first for me! No makeup…what am I thinking?” Couric told InStyle.com exclusively. “But the average American woman spends $12,000-$15,000 on beauty and salon treatments annually, not to mention 160 hours every year on primping and grooming. That’s an entire week of your life every year! So we thought it would be interesting to do a show like this, and if Phoebe Baker Hyde can do it for a whole year, I can surely do it for an hour, right?” Tune in to Katie tomorrow, Friday, January 11 (click here to see when it airs near you) to see the the talk show host go au natural! And tell us: What’s your makeup routine?

Plus, see Katie’s transformation!

“…the average American woman spends $12,000-$15,000 on beauty and salon treatments annually.” Really? I find this hard to believe. I don’t know anyone who spends anywhere near that amount. Maybe in Katie’s elite circles this is true, but not in mine.

The average woman does not spend $12,000-$15,000 on beauty salon treatments and make-up a year! I use Lancome Mascara, Christian Dior, and Mac make-up; and come *nowhere* close to this quote!

That is an awful lot of money to spend on a year of beauty. Women need to feel happy within themselves, without feeling the need for makeup all the time! Beauty comes from within. Cosmetics companies love to make us FEEL like we have to wear it/need it all the time. Shame on them for making us feel reliant on makeup to make us feel better! We women are bombarded with the urgency to ” be beautiful” all the time, when mostly we do want to go out without it!

That is a ridiculous amount to spend a year on makeup! Shame on makeup companies for bombarding us & making us feel less than great about ourselves when we go without it. They make you feel you need it all the time! I never “treat” myself to spas etc., so that to me, seems like a waste too. Be happy within yourself!! Beauty comes from within, not hiding behind a mask of makeup all the time! Save your money by not being so vain..
