Goodbye stiff updos, hello bouncy waves! While many pageant contenders opt for prom-esque chignons, the ladies of the Miss Universe competition last night broke the tradition with soft, voluminous blowouts. The styles worn by Gabriela Markus (Miss Brazil), Renee Ayris (Miss Australia), Agnes Konkoly (Miss Hungary), winner Olivia Culpo (Miss USA), and Melinda Bam (Miss South Africa) were among our favorites, and we like how the carefree styles allowed their glamorous ensembles to take center stage. Culpo later swept her hair into an oversized bun before taking the crown, but the soft curls and sexy volume of these looks certainly warrant a tiara and sash. Now this is how fashion gives back! The Fashion for Sandy Relief Initiative raised $1.7 million for those who suffered from the Super Storm. The online auction bid off items such as a meet-and-greet with Victoria Beckham, a Tory Burch shopping spree and lunch with the designer, and plenty of other prizes donated by those in the fashion industry. The most popular item? A week-long internship with DKNY PR Girl, which racked up a total of 34 bids.

After a delay in the release of Baz Luhrman’s film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby—which was originally supposed to come out this month and will now hit theaters May 10 of next year—there are a few more teasers out! The second trailer has just been released (watch it above), featuring stars Leonardo DiCaprio (as Jay Gatsby), Carey Mulligan (as Daisy Buchanan), Tobey Maguire (as Nick Carraway), and Isla Fisher (as Myrtle Wilson) in all their glittering, Luhrman-stylized glory. The director who brought us Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge appears to be sticking to his trademark visual style, relying upon slow-motion captures and lots of gold hues to tell the ostentatious tale of the upper echelons of New York society in the roaring 1920s. Maguire also took to his Twitter (for the first time since June!) to release six new posters for the film, each of which features an iconic line from the novel. Watch the trailer above and click through the gallery below to see all the posters! More
Miss USA scored a win for the red, white, and blue at the annual Miss Universe pageant last night! Twenty-year-old Rhode Island native Olivia Culpo beat out 88 other contestants to take home the most prized crown in the cosmos—the first Miss USA to do so in 15 years—during an ultra-glitzy Las Vegas affair co-hosted by Giuliana Rancic and Andy Cohen. Not only did she win the tiara, Culpo also won herself a luxury apartment and a scholarship, as well as $84,000 of additional prizes. “What an honor! This night was a dream come true. Thank you everyone for your support tonight!! USA finally did it!” Culpo Tweeted at the competition’s close. Culpo looked stunning as she accepted her new crown, walking across the stage in a velvet Georges Hobeika Couture gown from the fall 2012 collection. Congrats, Olivia, and USA!
