Heads up, Girls fans: With the countdown to the show’s January 13 season two premiere officially underway (just one month to go!) we caught up with the show’s costume designer, Jenn Rogien, to find out her favorite looks from the show’s first season. “It’s such a fun show to work on because the characters are so interesting and relatable and quirky—it’s a magical group of characters,” the designer told us.  “[The show] reflects what I went through when I first moved to New York.“  And there’s more: The first season came out today on DVD! Snag a box set ($40, hbo.com) to relive all your favorite scenes, or gift it to your own gal pals for the holidays. How To Get Mindy Kaling’s Textured Waves: Follow These Easy Steps!

Dec 11, 2012 @ 5:45 pm

She may keep us laughing on The Mindy Project (on FOX tonight at 9:30 PM EST!), but Mindy Kaling’s loose waves are guaranteed to bring serious glamour. And although her hairstylist Luke Chamberlain drew vintage inspiration from 1970s-era Bianca Jagger, the bedhead texture is timeless and easy to recreate. Just follow these tips!

1. Chamberlain applied the Matrix Biolage Volumizing Mousse ($16; matrix.com for locations) to bring out Kaling’s natural wave, then wrapped small sections of hair in a figure-eight pattern around a curling iron.

2. While her strands were still warm, he placed them in one-inch velcro rollers to set.

3. Once cool, Chamberlain used a brush to loosen the curls and spritzed on Matrix Amplify Hairspray ($15; matrix.com for locations) to finish.

Ah, the office holiday party: a time-honored tradition of awkward toasts, stumbling co-workers, and blatant re-gifting. Mindy’s version? All that plus a gingerbread house! Kaling’s former Office co-star Ellie Kemper guest stars on tonight’s brand-new episode of The Mindy Project, aptly titled  “Josh and Mindy’s Christmas Party.” That’s right, Mindy somehow coerces new boyfriend Josh (Tommy Dewey) to co-host the fête at her apartment. We’re thinking twinkling lights, bubbly, and sore cheeks after this merry occasion. Tune in to FOX tonight at 9:30 p.m. EST to see who brings the most holiday cheer.

New GirlGreg Gayne/FOX

On tonight’s winter finale of New Girl, the gang hits the holiday party circuit at full speed…but not without a few bumps along the way, of course. Nick can’t keep up with his sexually adventurous girlfriend (guest star Olivia Munn) and Schmidt is bah humbug after Cece denies him. Then, when Jess (Zooey Deschanel) runs into her ex, Sam (guest star David Walton), she tries to convince him that she’s moved on and dating Winston. But will the charade last? We’re thinking it’s unlikely! Tune in tonight at 9/8c on FOX to see if Jess and Sam rekindle the fire.

Kelly Clarkson Records Duet with Jewel For Her Greatest Hits Album

Dec 11, 2012 @ 2:55 pm

Jewel is slated to release a Greatest Hits album in February, and there’s at least one very special guest making an appearance on the disc! Kelly Clarkson hit the studio with the folk-pop crooner (made famous in the late nineties for hit songs like “Who Will Save Your Soul” and “You Were Meant For Me”) to re-record her hit “Foolish Games” as a duet. “Kelly was amazing—she was a hoot to have in the studio,” Jewel told Billboard of their collaboration. “She had done “Foolish Games” in several talent shows prior to American Idol, so she really knew it. I’m such a fan of her voice and love what she added to the song.” When it originally came out in 1997, the song had a spot on the Batman & Robin soundtrack, as well as a 65-week run in the top 15 of the Billboard charts. We look forward to hearing the duo take it on together!
