Rachel Zoe’s Holiday Shopping Stress: ‘My Life Does Not Lend to Shopping Days’

Nov 29, 2012 @ 1:32 pm

Rachel Zoe faces a problem so many of us do around the holidays: Not. Enough. Time. To. Shop. “It’s pretty stressful,” the celebrity stylist told InStyle.com when she stopped by to style holiday looks at the Piperlime store in New York last night. “My life does not lend to shopping days. So, I’ve been doing a lot online, more and more.” In fact, she was one of the many who contributed to Cyber Monday’s epic sales day ($1.46 billion in sales!). “It was really fun, actually,” she said of her online experience. “I bought some stuff for [my son] Skyler, like a pretend kitchen and an amazing vintage airplane that he can drive. It has pedals.” And with gift-giving sessions fast approaching, her advice on choosing something for your tot is simple: “Buy what they love!”

Marion Cotillard’s Makeup Artist Launch Skincare Line in U.S.

Nov 29, 2012 @ 1:21 pm

Marion Cotillard has an enviable natural glow, a look she perfects with the expertise of Maya Alleaume. The celebrity makeup artist uses her own natural Sentara skincare line to create Cotillard’s lovely complexion, and this month, the range of organic must-haves (with potent ingredients) launches in the U.S. “My clients were looking for something different, products that were natural, did not contain fragrances or chemicals, and were much more efficient in their effects,” Alleaume told InStyle.com. “I grew up using and understanding natural products, and I wanted to bring this background to my clients to help them experience the benefits of organic cosmetics.” And we’re so glad she did! We’re currently obsessed with Sentara’s Rose Gel Makeup Remover ($50), which hydrates skin while sweeping away even the most waterproof mascaras, and the age-fighting Plump Effect Bio-Relaxing Serum ($87). Shop the full line on aylabeauty.com starting Sunday.

Girls Star Allison Williams’s Perfect Ponytail: Look We Love

Nov 29, 2012 @ 12:45 pm

Even the simplest of hairstyles take work, and Allison Williams knows it! The perfectly-placed ponytail she rocked for last night’s Target & Neiman Marcus holiday collaboration launch party in New York took just under 90 minutes of prep time. “It takes so long,” the Girls actress told InStyle.com of her updo style. “There’s something about a ponytail that’s really difficult to do. Even on Girls, when I have to wear a ponytail, they have to allot extra time.” This time though, she had some help. “There’s not a chance I’d be able to do this myself!” she said. But, with some practice, you can, thanks to some expert tips from celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis, who has worked with Kerry Washington, Kirsten Dunst, and Jessica Pare. Francis suggests following the natural line of your cheekbone as a guide when placing your ponytail, and tilting your head back to gather your strands. “It leaves the hair at the nape tight and clean,” he said. For more tips on perfecting your ponytail, click through the gallery.

Found It! Shay Mitchell’s Festive Holiday Outfit

Nov 29, 2012 @ 12:05 pm

Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell layered up for her trip to New York this week! “New York is a lot colder than Los Angeles, so packing can be a little more difficult,” she told us at the launch party celebrating the Target and Neiman Marcus holiday collaboration, held at the retailer’s pop-up shop on Fifth Avenue. “I like it though because I get to have fun with layering pieces, which I don’t get to do in L.A.” And we found out where to shop her festive holiday pieces! The actress paired her faux fur vest by Skaist-Taylor from the Target and Neiman collaboration ($80 at Target and Neiman Marcus stores starting December 1), with black velvet with gold brocade jeans by 7 for All Mankind ($198 at 7forallmankind.com). She then accessorized with Lia Sophia and Stella & Dot jewelry—”I love having jewelry everywhere,” she said—including this gold-plated, spike-covered Renegade Cluster Bracelet ($59 at shop.stelladot.com), and topped off the whole outfit with a generous swipe of MAC’s purple-red lipstick hue, Rebel ($15 at maccosmetics.com). What a festive combination!

Evangeline Lilly’s Short Highlighted Crop: What a Haircut!

Nov 29, 2012 @ 11:40 am

Lost actress Evangeline Lilly got a hair makeover! The 33-year-old actress revealed the dramatic change at the premiere of The Hobbit in Wellington, New Zealand, complete with bold golden highlights. Lilly’s style boasts long bangs in the front with choppy length in the back—similar to Miley Cyrus’s first take on the pixie. Shorter hair has had a good year, with Anne Hathaway and Tia Mowry both helping make the choppy above-the-shoulder styles a popular look for any age and face shape. So, do you like her new cut? Holiday Photos 2012: Celebrations from Coast to Coast!

Holiday cheer is spreading from coast to coast! Thousands of people lined the streets of midtown New York to catch a glimpse of the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center (this year it’s an 80-foot Norway spruce topped with a Swarovski-crystal covered star!) as Cee Lo Green, Mariah Carey, and Tony Bennett helped ring in the festive occasion. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, musicians Cody Simpson and Barry Manilow lent their soothing voices to the L.A. LIVE’s in Nokia Plaza festivities, where a 66-foot artificial Sequoia tree went aglow. Click through the gallery to see more holiday tree lightings, pretty store windows, and more!

Kristin Chenoweth on Black Friday Shopping: “I Went to Target at Midnight”

Nov 29, 2012 @ 10:45 am

Despite her in-jest protests that she’s “too famous” to shop Black Friday, Kristin Chenoweth actually participated in this year’s record-setting post-Thanksgiving shopping day! “I was in Oklahoma, and I did go to Target with my cousins at midnight,” the Broadway belter (in a 3.1 Phillip Lim top) told InStyle.com at Tourneau’s Meet Under The Mistletoe celebration this week—which, by the way, featured the world’s largest ball of mistletoe, measuring six feet across (and an appearance by Santa Claus!). “And that was an experience I don’t really need to have again. I’ve done it and I’m done.” The pint-sized Chenoweth was a bit overwhelmed by the experience, it seems—“My head spins out of control!”—which is why she stayed clear of the registers in favor of watching over her cousins findings. “I was on patrol. There was a lady who tried to take something out of my cousin’s cart and I was like, ‘No, that’s ours!‘” she said. Instead, she’s waiting for some alone time to shop. “I’m kind of a loner, because I don’t want to have to answer to anybody,” she explained. “Otherwise I would feel stressed!” Sounds like the holidays to us!
