Nov 19, 2012 @ 6:33 pm

At the 40th Annual American Music Awards, fabulous fashion wasn’t the only thing that grabbed our attention! Complementing the stunning gowns and jaw-dropping jewels was pretty makeup and enviable hair. Carrie Underwood made a regal red carpet statement with gilded eyes, while Taylor Swift went for a dewy, au naturel finish. Carly Rae Jepsen played up her pretty peepers with winged liner and Christina Aguilera debuted a Cleopatra-inspired A-line bob. Diego Uchitel: Polaroids – The Photographer Gives a Snapshot of His Book

Nov 19, 2012 @ 4:01 pm

After getting his first Polaroid at the age of 19, Argentine fashion and celebrity photographer Diego Uchitel (top left) was instantly hooked. So, quite fittingly, he’s paying homage to the classic format with an aptly titled new book, Diego Uchitel: Polaroids, which showcases a curated collection—spanning over 25 years—of the oft-raw and candid relics. We caught up with Uchitel to find out what inspired him to compile the tome. “The mosaic of Polaroids on the wall [20 by 80 feet] in my studio that took shape over many years was so powerful that it begged to be preserved!” Uchitel told InStyle.com. And despite his affinity for the old, Diego still embraces the new: “I love Instagram for what it is. The immediate gratification and ability to stylize any shot and share it straight away. It can make a trash dump look cool. I do however still believe in the craft of photography and setting up the perfect shot,” Uchitel said. And sometimes that perfect shot isn’t captured on a professional camera. Diego admits he shoots pictures on his phone all the time. “I rarely pick up a camera at home. I nearly got kicked out of the delivery room trying to snap photos of my son’s birth on my iPhone!” When asked if he has a favorite image from the book, Uchitel diplomatically told us, “That is like picking a favorite child! They all mean a lot to me due to the memories attached to each one.” Snap up a copy now to see all of his favorite “children”—SJP to David Bowie—in Diego Uchitel: Polaroids ($50, Damiani).

Christopher Kane Exits Versus, Versace’s Diffusion Line

Nov 19, 2012 @ 3:46 pm

After three years with Versace‘s diffusion line, Versus, Scottish designer Christopher Kane will be parting ways with the Italian fashion house, effective immediately. “I want to thank Christopher for his contribution to Versus over six seasons, during which I have been able to appreciate his extraordinary talent,” the line’s creative director, Donatella Versace, said in a statement. “Working with young talented people, and seeing them grow and develop as I have seen Christopher do over these years, is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.” The brand added that it will be headed in a new direction, creatively, focusing on its digital growth and hiring yet-to-be-named “young designers, stylists, and creatives from different walks of life” to collaborate on capsule collections, co-branding projects, and limited editions. According to the statement, Kane will now focus on his own eponymous line—much loved by Kate Middleton, among others—but rumors have been swirling that he might take over Parisian fashion house Balenciaga in the stead of Nicolas Ghesquière, who left earlier this month, though representatives at Christopher Kane have called the rumors “unfounded.” Stay tuned…

Revolution: Charlie’s Natural On-Set Beauty Secrets

Nov 19, 2012 @ 1:40 pm

When the lights went out on NBC’s hit new drama Revolution, we couldn’t help but wonder: how do its characters primp without power? So, we turned to star Tracy Spiridakos (who plays Charlie) for the scoop on achieving her “no makeup” look and perfectly tousled locks on the show. Turns out, her secret is just a drugstore away. “We put on some foundation to take redness out [of my skin], and a little blush, eye shadow and mascara to enhance some of my features but still keep it natural looking,” Spiridakos told InStyle.com. “Mainly nude shades and a lot of lip balm! Burt’s Bees is my favorite.” As for her wavy mane: “We usually let it air dry,” she said. “We use an anti frizz serum, twist it up and pin it till were good to go! That gives it a natural texture, without damaging my hair.” Tune in to Revolution tonight at 10/9c on NBC to see Spiridakos in action. And, you may want to add lip balm in your emergency kit while you’re at it!
