Nail Polish Trend to Try: A Single, White Statement Nail

Nov 14, 2012 @ 2:58 pm

Anne Hathaway and Gwen Stefani gave their solid manicures a cute twist this week by painting their ring fingers white! The crisp shade gave contrast to Hathaway’s red and Stefani’s black nails, and is an easy way to experiment with new colors. Try the trend at home, but limit your statement nail to just one digit, like your ring or middle finger. If deeper shades intimidate you, incorporate a lighter hue to break up the effect. We love a deep wine and navy blue combo, and day-glo neons are instantly grounded when paired with taupe or nude colors.

Oz: The Great and Powerful: Watch the New Trailer

Nov 14, 2012 @ 2:30 pm

Disney just released another promotional clip for Oz: The Great and Powerful, the first one since July. The new one—watch it above—gives us an even better look into the Sam Raimi-directed film, which is the prequel story to the infamous tale of Dorothy and her yellow brick road. James Franco portrays the man before the wizard—a magician from Kansas who boards a hot-air balloon and gets caught up in a twister that takes him to the mysterious land of Oz. There, he meets Theodora the Good Witch (Mila Kunis), her sister Evanora (Rachel Weisz), and the incomparable Glinda (Michelle Williams). But are his powers real, or are the people of Oz just bewitched by his showy skills? And will he defeat the Wicked Witch in time to claim the ultimate treasure? Guess we’ll have to wait until the film opens March 8th to find out!

Found It! Twilight Star Ashley Greene’s Shiny Pink Lip Color

Nov 14, 2012 @ 1:43 pm

At the Los Angeles premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2Ashley Greene played off of the blush tones of her custom Donna Karan dress with a high-shine pink lip. Thanks to the help of her makeup artist Vanessa Scali, we tracked down the exact products the actress wore! “I wanted to continue this romantic feeling [of her dress] with her makeup,” said Scali, who paired mark. Make It Rich Lip Color Crayon in Naturally ($11) with the In a Whirl Marbelized Lip Gloss in Pink Souffle ($8). Rather than creating a stark, flesh-toned base, the warm nude crayon mirrored Greene’s natural lip color, while the shiny gloss added extra dimension. Pick up both products at meetmark.com.

Nashville Costume Secrets: Clare Bowen’s Style Influences Scarlett’s Wardrobe

Nov 14, 2012 @ 12:47 pm

Australian actress Clare Bowen brings a perfect Southern twang and an almost sticky-sweetness to her character Scarlett on ABC’s new drama, Nashville, and we caught up with the 23-year-old to talk about playing a rising star with serious songwriting skills. Turns out, there are lot of similarities between her and her character’s vocal talents—as a classically-trained singer, she began penning her own tunes at just 9-years-old—as well as their wardrobes. “One of my creative writing teachers said to me, just stick to what you know,” Bowen said of how she picked her Nashville costumes. “I want Scarlett to evolve, but I thought I’ll start out wearing what I know.” That includes cowboy boots, vintage-inspired dresses and mixing her own jewelry with pieces from the show. Having that kind of creative input is a privilege she doesn’t take for granted. “These people have cast us and they trust us. They know that we love our characters and we’ll take good care of them,” Bowen said. “It’s kind of like a little plant.” We can’t wait to see Scarlett grow! Tune in for an new episode of Nashville tonight at 10/9 c on ABC.

Andrew Garfield: ‘Yes, Spider-Man Celebrates Thanksgiving’

Nov 14, 2012 @ 11:27 am

With Thanksgiving eight days away, we’re happy to report that there will superheroes joining the festivities this year—and not just as balloons at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Amazing Spider-Man is a confirmed Thanksgiving-lover, as Andrew Garfield, the actor who plays the hero, told us at last night’s Worldwide Orphans Foundation Gala in New York City (he’s the sports ambassador for the non-profit). “I’m assuming [Spider-Man celebrates] because he’s American, and he’s pretty tight with his aunt, so yes, I’d say he would,” Garfield told us. And even though Garfield himself is British—as you know it’s not really a British holiday, per history—he will be celebrating, too. “I like turkey, and I like tryptophan, and I like the drowsy feeling that you I get from tryptophan, so yes I will be eating turkey somewhere,” he said. Will it be with on-screen and real-life love, Emma Stone? For that answer, he wouldn’t say. So coy, Spidey!
