Estée, Evelyn Lauder Jewelry to Be Auctioned by Sotheby’s for Breast Cancer FoundationNov 5, 2012 @ 1:20 pm
Breast Cancer Awareness Month may officially be over, but the cause continues in a big way. Sotheby’s New York has just announced that its Magnificent Jewels auction will include 35 pieces, worth an estimated $13 million, from the private collections of the late makeup pioneer Estée Lauder and her daughter Evelyn. The jewelry comprises pink diamonds, yellow diamonds, rubies, and more—all to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which Evelyn (who passed away in 2011) founded. Leonard Lauder, chairman emeritus of the Estée Lauder Companies, said in a statement, “Each piece of jewelry is unique and very special. They were each designed to be timeless pieces that also manifest exceptional style and taste. I know that both my mother Estée and my dear wife Evelyn would be pleased that these items are being sold to raise funds for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.” The auction, to be held December 5, will feature Lauder family gems by Van Cleef & Arpels, like the Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond Pendant (seen on Estée, above, and worth an estimated $1.5–$2 million) as well as the Mystery-Set Ruby and Diamond Brooch (shown above, and expected to fetch an estimated $60,000–$80,000).
