With fall being a season of dark hues, we’re thrilled to see stars livening up the red carpet in bold prints. January Jones worked a pelican print Wes Gordon dress at the 41st Annual Peace Over Violence Humanitarian Awards, Michelle Pfeiffer opted for metallic Barbara Bui dress for the 8th Annual Elyse Walker Pink Party, Kerry Washington tried a tropical style by British designer Mary Katrantzou for The Details premiere, and Olivia Munn attended the Courage in Journalism Awards wearing a psychedelic patterned Peter Pilotto style. “You have to have a little bit of fun, especially with prints,” advised Katrantzou of wearing in-your-face looks. “We all need a little bit of color and humor in our lives. Wear it confidently.” Agreed! Tell us: Which of these prints would you wear?

Mariah Carey’s OPI Nail Polish Collection: First Look!

Oct 30, 2012 @ 12:52 pm

Calling all nail fanatics: Mariah Carey is about to revamp your manicure! For its latest collaboration, OPI teamed up with the singer/American Idol judge to develop eight Grammy-worthy hues—including the new Liquid Sand polishes, which impart a matte, textured effect. “Mariah is very passionate about beauty and her nails in particular. To pay homage to her iconic status, we wanted to launch her collection with something new and exciting,” said OPI executive VP and artistic director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann. “The Liquid Sand nail lacquer offers a never-before-seen look with a pebbled finish that lightly shimmers with fine glitter particles.” We can’t wait to get our hands (and nails) on a bottle—or vice versa! The Mariah Carey line hits stores in January, but you can preview all the nail polish colors ($9 each) right now. Click through our gallery below to get a closer look at every shade.

Dancing With the Stars: Watch Karina and Apolo’s Emotional Dance

Oct 30, 2012 @ 11:25 am

Karina Smirnoff and partner Apolo Anton Ohno performed a Viennese Waltz to the cancer-fighting anthem “Skin” by the Rascal Flatts on last night’s Dancing With the Stars, a routine so moving, it caused judge Carrie Ann Inaba to call it “poetry in motion.” “This was one of the most touching, inspirational, and emotional dances I’ve had the chance to choreograph and create with Apolo this season,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com. “I knew this dance would bring out the side that we all wanted to see from Apolo. It was not about laughter or fun, but more about inspiration, emotions, sentiment, and romance.” That also meant the look had to match. “I wanted to create something that was stripped of everything, so the main focus would be the dance and the meaning behind it,” Smirnoff said. “It was a simple, elegant, beautiful dress that flowed when we danced and I loved it. I added a touch of dazzle to it, a very simple stone in that back of the dress to give it a little more sophistication.” Watch the dress in motion above.
