Chris Benz’s Ultimate Tip for Fall Dressing

Oct 22, 2012 @ 2:27 pm

We’re getting right into the thick of fall dressing right now, and we’re asking designers their key tips for dressing for the season. Chris Benzs tip? Buy strategically.Every season for me is about shopping your closet and getting a few new key pieces,” the pink-haired designer, who is loved by First Lady Michelle Obama, Sophia Bush, and Eva Mendes, told InStyle.com at an intimate dinner celebrating eBay’s new Feed feature. And he suggests this season’s key pieces come with some shine. “For fall, it’s about dressing up and wearing a little bit of sparkle and shine throughout the day, like with jeans or with a shoe. I’m really into that counterpoint.” Thanks, Chris!

Lauren Conrad’s Book Tour Style

Oct 22, 2012 @ 2:09 pm

Lauren Conrad has taken a page from her own stylebook to promote her latest tome, Starstruck—the second in the Fame Game series—and Lauren Conrad Beauty, a companion to Lauren Conrad Style. The author/fashion designer recently advised readers of her Web site to wear bold colors for fall “to liven up the season’s characteristically structured and tailored silhouettes (and drab palette).” So, in a prime example of practice what you preach, Conrad opted for dresses in punchier hues for some of the book tour stops. She wore a sunny canary yellow Yoana Baraschi dress in New York City, a salmon Erin by Erin Fetherston number the next day in Pennsylvania, followed by a bright orange Haryln frock in Miami. The Paper Crown creator balanced her saturated style with nude pumps and her signature California beachy waves. Both books are available in stores now and online at amazon.com.

Tonight’s Dancing with the Stars Teams: Gangham Style vs. Call Me Maybe

Oct 22, 2012 @ 2:07 pm

We ran into Dancing with the Stars’ pro Cheryl Burke and judge Carrie Ann Inaba at the Carousel of Hope Ball in Los Angeles this weekend, and they were both beyond excited about this week’s episode. “This week is going to be nuts,” said Burke, who dances with all-star Emmitt Smith this season. “It’s the first time we’ve done two dances, a team dance and a solo. The team dances are all freestyle. I’m the ‘Gangham Style’ team and then there’s the ‘Call Me Maybe’ team.” Carrie Ann thinks this is going to be a pivotal moment, too. “I think one couple made a lot better choice in their team than the other couple did,” she told InStyle.com. “I will not say who, but I think one couple has by far the advantage in the way they made their choices on who to pick.” Tune in to ABC at 8 p.m. EST tonight to see who wins: the Gangham-inspired horse dance or the jig inspired by Cary Rae Jepsen’s pop manifesto!

Tyra Banks’ Striped Manicure How-To

Oct 22, 2012 @ 2:01 pm

Tyra Banks certainly earned her stripes at the Flawsome Ball in New York City, where the America’s Next Top Model host matched her manicure to the graphic pattern on her white illusion dress. While the supermodel nailed the exact design, the effect isn’t too matchy-matchy, thanks to a darker color palette. To create a similar look, use a nail art polish (we love Orly’s version, $5; orlybeauty.com), which has a built-in, fine-tipped brush, for perfecting the chic chevron effect. If you have trouble holding a steady hand, use pieces of tape to section off the V-shaped pattern, then fill in using short, precise strokes. Be sure to let the base coat dry completely before sticking the tape to your nail, otherwise the polish will get pulled off when you remove the strips.

The Best Parties of the Week: Carousel of Hope Ball and Beyond!

George Clooney accepted the Brass Ring Award for his humanitarian work in Sudan at the 26th Anniversary Carousel of Hope Ball this weekend, which was presented by Mercedes-Benz and raised $2.5 million for the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. “It’s pretty amazing,” Clooney told reporters of the cause. “I think it’s important for everyone to give back.” Singers Babyface and American Idol alum Jessica Sanchez serenaded the crowd, which also included Dancing With the Stars pro Cheryl Burke (in Amit Gt), judge Carrie Ann Inaba (in David Meister), Carmen Electra (in Olcay Gulsen), Julianne Hough (in Jenny Packham) and Jennie Garth (in Toujouri). However, it was Neil Diamond’s set that brought Jane Fonda, Stacy Keibler (in Monique Lhuillier), and Clooney to their feet. The crooner even convinced the honoree to finish his hit “Sweet Caroline”—after some red wine liquid courage. Encore! See more photos from this week’s biggest parties in the gallery.
