5. And who won this week on TV? Dmitry Sholokov on Project Runway and Mad Men: the show’s collection with Banana Republic is back for round three and Elisabeth Moss is back to being Peggy!

6. Bridal Fashion Week came and went in New York, and here’s what you missed: Now you can get your man a blingy diamond ring from Vera Wang’s Zales collection, and drool over her new wedding dress collection while you’re at it, as well as collections from Amsale, Temperley, Carolina Herrera, and Marchesa.

7. Happy birthday! Target turned 50 and Bergdorf Goodman celebrated 111!

The First Time In Theaters: If You Want a High School Flashback, Watch It

Oct 19, 2012 @ 5:42 pm

Although not necessarily reinventing the wheel, The First Time (out today) offers a fresh, enjoyable, and surprisingly poignant take on the should-we-or-shouldn’t-we high school rom-com. Aubrey (the delightful Britt Robertson from under-appreciated CW series The Secret Circle) and Dave (Dylan O’Brien) meet, become fast friends, and then more, all while offering up witty repartee that harkens back to old-school screwball comedies. Robertson and O’Brien are adorable, and the dialogue is bouncy and intelligent. This sweet, earnest, entertaining film will almost make you wish you were back in high school. Almost. Find out where it’s playing near you.

Lena Dunham’s Movie Nobody Walks Out Today: Stars Olivia Thirlby, John Krasinski

Oct 19, 2012 @ 5:04 pm

In Nobody Walks (out today in New York and Los Angeles), cool girl Olivia Thirlby shines as a comely young artist from New York who comes to Los Angeles for work and almost immediately stirs up trouble in the lives of the family she’s staying with. The results are interesting, pensive, and alarming, which isn’t all that surprising considering the fact that Girls girl Lena Dunham is the film’s co-writer. Passions are provoked and resentments rise in this provocative, subtle dramedy also starring John Krasinski and Rosemarie DeWitt. ”John told me he had never had sex before onscreen,” Thirlby told InStyle for our October issue. ”I was honored to shoulder that burden.” Find out where Nobody Walks is playing near you.

Sophia Bush Matches Lips and Nails

Oct 19, 2012 @ 4:54 pm

We’re loving Sophia Bush‘s makeup match-up. The Partners actress coordinated her bright brick lips with her nails (fingers and feet) for a head-to-toe beauty home run. “I love a classic red,” Bush told InStyle.com of her color choice at the 3rd Annual J. Mendel Autumn Party. “I just went, you know what? Let’s go for it. Lay it on!” Taken straight from the Fall 2012 runways—think back to the Zac Posen and YSL shows, a matching mouth and mani is right on trend. “That’s the fun with fashion,” Bush said. “You can do anything and you can be anything with a few quick adjustments.” We couldn’t have said it better. Tell us: Would you match your lips to your nails?

Tyler Perry’s Alex Cross Coat Made Him Feel “Like a Superhero”

Oct 19, 2012 @ 4:49 pm

Tyler Perry takes on his first dramatic big-screen role in Alex Cross, out today, and there’s one major wardrobe moment that helped him get into the role—the trench coat. “The Alex Cross coat really made me feel big and strong and powerful, like a superhero with a cape,” Perry told InStyle.com at last night’s New York screening, hosted by The Cinema Society and Grey Goose. (That’s why the team brought in costume designer Abigail Murray, who also worked on 666 Park Avenue.) And his character needed superhero-like qualities—the film tells the story of Dr. Alex Cross, a homicide detective who faces emotional highs and lows as he deals with a highly-skilled serial killer named Picasso (played by Lost’s Matthew Fox). The story is a prequel to the 1997 film Kiss the Girls, which starred Morgan Freeman as Cross, and based on a series of novels by best-selling author James Patterson. Even the author, who helped pen the screenplay, said he considers wardrobe when he’s writing for the big screen. “When you’re writing a detective, you have to be careful that the audience is going to buy into what he’s wearing,” Patterson told InStyle.com. “Yes, that he looks good, but also that it’s believable. I think the key with Perry’s style was that he looks good, but also that you believe him as a cop, which isn’t the easiest thing in the world.” Alex Cross is now in theaters nationwide.
