Colin Cowie’s Pink Swarovski Chair for Breast Cancer Awareness: “It’s a Symbol of Glamorous Hope”

Oct 17, 2012 @ 2:59 pm

Party planner and wedding designer extraordinaire Colin Cowie came out to support small business entrepreneurs at Martha Stewart’s American Made Awards in New York, but he had a very big project of his own to talk about. In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Cowie created a hot pink chair covered in crystals for Swarovski, and it’s currently being auctioned off on Charitybuzz.com to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. “Breast cancer [awareness] is all about hope,” Cowie told InStyle.com. “And with hope comes the jewels and the gems of life—so we completely pavéd the inside in those trapezoid-shaped diamonds and stones. I think it’s a symbol of glamorous hope.” The luxury lounger is on the block—along with 19 other designer chairs that were designed as part of The Pink Projectthrough the end of October, with a starting bid of $750. On tonight’s episode of our favorite new drama, Nashville we’ll get a glimpse at the softer side of Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) and the true strength of Rayna James (Connie Britton). But it’s the fashion that has us most excited—cowboy boots with everything! From the on-stage costumes to the casual about-town looks, we’re loving the denim and diamonds aesthetic of Nashville. Stars Britton and Panettiere gave InStyle.com some insight into their looks and what we can expect to see this season. Busy Philipps on Slicked-Back Bun: “I Wanted to Do Frida Kahlo Hair”

Oct 17, 2012 @ 1:52 pm

We adored Busy Philipps‘s hairstyle at Elle‘s Women in Hollywood dinner, held at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. The actress wore her blonde strands parted down the middle and tightly slicked back into a bun, which highlighted her statement Irene Neuwirth earrings. The look was inspired by artist Frida Kahlo, who infamously wore her hair in a similar style, with braids knotted around the back. “I’m obsessed with this idea right now,” Philipps told InStyle.com. “I was actually having dinner [the other night] and out of nowhere I said, ‘I really want Frida Kahlo hair—with braids that loop and braids in the back.’ Ever since then, I’ve been wanting to do it!” And we’re glad she did! Tell us: Would you try this style?

Jane Fonda’s Advice to Her Younger Self: “It’s a Good Thing to Know Who You Are”

Oct 17, 2012 @ 1:24 pm

Jane Fonda has been in the film industry for more than 50 years, so, not surprisingly, she’s learned a thing or two about life (and working the red carpet). Note the on-trend gold leather jacket and cream ensemble (shown right) that the legendary actress/fitness guru wore to the Los Angeles premiere of her HBO drama The Newsroom. We caught up with Fonda at a New York fundraiser for her charity, the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, and wanted to know what advice the 74-year-old star would give her younger self. “To be more self-aware,” she told InStyle.com. “I didn’t pay attention back then and I wish that I had. I used to think it was a bad thing, but I now think it’s a good thing to know who you are and how you want to present yourself to the world. I didn’t then.” She certainly gives the impression of a self-possessed woman, and we love that she’s an active charity supporter to boot!

Michelle Obama’s Tracy Reese Dress Left Designer “A Little Mystified”

Oct 17, 2012 @ 1:07 pm

Michelle Obama knows how to wow a crowdjust look at her hot pink Michael Kors look from last night’s presidential debate. Though, the level in which people pay attention to her choices remains surprising to even those who dress her, including Tracy Reese, who created the red and silver dress the First Lady wore to speak at the Democratic National Convention. “I’m a little mystified,” she told us at the American Theater Ballet’s opening night gala in New York City last night. “I’m flattered. It’s interesting how much conversation got generated about her dress and nails, but for me, the night was all about her speech.” Yet, she knows the power of a good dress—the style will go on sale soon (it was rushed into production) and there is already a look inspired by Obama’s style in Reese’s collection for Anthropologie (shop it for $298 at anthropologie.com). ‘Tis election season!
