And, as proven by the actresses, a textured chignon with loose, face-framing pieces works at any age. To recreate the style, apply a coat of volumizer (from roots to ends) to blow-dried hair. Using a paddle brush, gently smooth the hairline and brush strands upward to create lift. Next, tease the crown and vertical sections on the sides, then pull strands back as if you are creating a low ponytail. While holding hair with one hand, begin twisting the “pony” up and to the left with your other hand. Continue until all of your hair is tightly wound. Fold the ends into the newly formed chignon and secure with pins. Allow short layers to fall, but tuck longer pieces into the updo.

On last night’s episode of Dancing With the Stars, Karina Smirnoff and partner Apolo Anton Ohno performed a hip-hop routine to “Poison”—and even though Smirnoff admittedly wasn’t thrilled about choreographing this dance style, she loved designing the metallic gold hoodies and hot pants. “When I heard the song, I thought of In Living Color and the amazing Fly Girls,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com. “Two of them stood out: the incredible Jennifer Lopez and our very own Carrie Ann Inaba. Not only were they talented on the dance floor, but they always set a trend—I love the bandanas, big hoop earrings, and short-shorts with boots. It screamed, ‘We are powerful women and can dance hard!’” Smirnoff was also influenced by this week’s guest judge, Paula Abdul. “She set some great fashion trends in that era, which completely led me to [incorporate] certain designs in my costume,” the dancer told us. “It was a fun week to be creative with the outfits, and it took me back to that [time] again!” So, what did you think of Karina’s ’80s style?

Madonna, who? Beyoncé is set to take the stage during Super Bowl XLVII halftime, the AP reports, which will be broadcasted live from the the New Orleans Mercedes-Benz Superdome on February 3, 2013. This will mark the first Super Bowl halftime performance for the 16-time Grammy winner, who has largely been laying low since the birth of daughter Blue Ivy, aside from a series of very glittery shows at Revel Resort in Atlantic City in May and a truly epic performance at the United Nations. We’ll be tuning in for sure—single ladies hands in the air like we just don’t care because girls run the world—will you?
