Smash’s Katharine McPhee takes her shining-star status literally, showing up to last night’s Samsung’s Galaxy SIII celebration in New York City wearing shimmer from head to toe. She layered a snakeskin sequin jacket from Joe’s Jeans ($360 at joesjeans.com) over a sheer Rebecca Taylor camisole, which she paired with  silver glitter-infused black skinnies by J. Brand (on sale for $92, down from $205, on theoutnet.com). ”I just kind of threw this together,” she told us, proving a little shine can amp up any look.

How to get Emily VanCamp’s Natural Smoky Eye

Oct 4, 2012 @ 12:17 pm

Smoky eyes don’t always have to be layered with deep kohl or pewter. Case in point: Emily VanCamp‘s subtle but sultry honey lids. We got the inside scoop from celebrity makeup artist Rosie Johnston, who created the fresh, understated look for the Revenge star’s appearance at the recent Environmental Media Awards. “Emily’s dress was such a bold color,” Johnston told InStyle.com, “we wanted to keep it simple.” She began by prepping skin with oil-free tinted moisturizer and spot concealer. “Just enough coverage, so the skin look clean and keeps a natural dewiness,” she said. To highlight the contours of VanCamp’s face, Johnston used Giorigio Armani’s Blushing Fabric in Carmel ($39, saksfifthavenue.com) on her cheeks and jawline. But it’s those smoky lids that have us ooh-ing and ah-ing. Johnston’s secret? “I used the same liquid bronzer on her eye lids as I did for her cheeks,” she told us, adding that she blended the bronzer with MAC eyeshadow in Texture ($15, mac.com) up toward the brow bone and outer corners of the eyes. Johnston also suggested lining a light layer of shadow under the lower lash line to make eyes really pop. To finish off the look, she filled in the brows with Talika Eyebrow Extender in Dark Brown ($35, talika.com). “You can’t forget the brows!” Johnston exclaims. “They’re so important to the look.” Love celebrity beauty tips? Runway Looks We Love: Elie Saab

Oct 4, 2012 @ 11:21 am

For a collection named “Heiress,” Elie Saab’s designs looked fittingly rich. The colors were opulent, with cobalt, white, teal, hot pink, and black in monochromatic and pattern combinations. The silhouettes looked equally lavish, with cocktail dresses and slacks blended with an array of office-ready dresses and short suits for day. No lady’s ensemble would be complete without ultra-chic accessories, and Saab offered a variety of bold heels and totes. No doubt ultra-fan and front row star Taylor Swift will be picking out her next glam moment from this lineup. Check out our favorite looks in the gallery.

Runway Looks We Love: Louis Vuitton

Oct 4, 2012 @ 11:09 am

After showing a mod-inspired collection for his show in New York last month, Marc Jacobs continued the throwback theme for his latest lineup for Louis Vuitton in Paris, offering up an energetic collection dominated by a graphic check print. Jacobs modernized the retro looks—mosly in black, white, and yellow with shots of green—by showing sexy slivers of skin and adding bits of sparkle. For accessories, he delivered shoes (kitten-heeled and bow-adorned) and bags (structured and ladylike) as mod as the clothes. Check out our favorite looks in the gallery.
