Nude nails are all the rage this season, and why not? They have a great slimming, elongating effect. The key is to find a shade that complements your skin tone the way Malin Akerman‘s pale blush complements hers. Celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann, who worked on Badgley Mischka‘s spring show, shared her secrets for choosing the perfect shade. “There is always a right way to wear nude so that it complements your skin tone,” Lippmann told InStyle.com. Begin with a peek at the inside of your wrist to determine your complexion. If you see yellow undertones, try an opaque beige. If the color veers more toward pink, choose a sheer mauve. When trying on a polish, look at the skin near the cuticle. “If it appears to be reddish or gray,” Lippmann told us, “the shade you’re wearing may not be the best one for you.” Instead, settle on one that makes your fingers look long and lean. As the face of Saint Laurent’s new Manifesto fragrance, Jessica Chastain earned herself a front-row seat to the label’s fashion show in Paris this week. What to wear for such an important event? The actress took a page out of YSL history, thanks to a little help from Decades, the Los Angeles luxury vintage boutique, and her stylist, Elizabeth Stewart. “We just ransacked our archives of original Yves Saint Laurents to find the quintessential Parisian look for the show,” Cameron Silver, co-owner and founder of Decades, told InStyle.com. Their pick: A black and white polka-dot Rive Gauche halter dress from the ‘80s. “It created a very modern yet timeless look,” he continued. “Elizabeth did the final fitting right before the show in Paris, since Jessica flew in from New York City where she is in rehearsals for The Heiress. I think my persistent texting may have been slightly distracting to the two of them, but I wanted to make sure we had Jess covered!” And covered she was—her look earned a coveted spot in InStyle’s Look of the Day section.

Ashley Greene is turning empowerment into m.powerment! As the face of mark cosmetics, the Twilight actress teamed up with the brand to raise awareness for domestic violence by throwing her support behind its new m.powerment petal-hued lipstick and compact gift set. “There is nothing more beautiful than a world free of violence,” Greene told InStyle.com of why she got involved, adding that 100% of sales from the $24 set will be donated to the cause (buy it on meetmark.com). “This shade supports the cause in an especially beautiful way.” And we love how the berry shade is highly wearable, as seen modeled by Greene. Celebrity makeup artist Mai Quynh created the look by swiping a rosey blush onto the apples of her cheeks and then layered the lipstick from the center of her lips outward for an even application.

Piperlime.com guest editor Rachel Bilson celebrated the company’s first-ever BFF Night, a monthly sip-and-shop soiree, wearing a look she pulled head-to-toe from the online shopping site. “I like when it gets cold, because I can wear lots of clothes and be warm,” she told us of her outfit’s inspiration at the New York Piperlime store last night, the same night the second season of her CW hit show Hart of Dixie premiered. “I like layering!” And that’s exactly what she did. Her look consisted of: A black Elizabeth & James boyfriend blazer ($385), a textured Vince sweater ($320), a House of Harlow collar necklace ($70), forest green Rag & Bone skinny jeans ($176), and Kate Spade New York suede pointy toe pumps ($298). For the first time since Liz Hurley donned it in 1994—instantly making her a household name—the iconic Gianni Versace safety-pin dress has stepped out again! Lady Gaga wore the infamous black silk crepe creation during her visit to Milan (where she met with Donatella Versace), mirroring Hurley’s full look with her newly brown hair and modest gold earrings. The dress caused a fashion frenzy upon its debut, and InStyle editor-at-large Hal Rubenstein counts it as his favorite dress of all time. He describes it in his book 100 Unforgettable Dresses as “devilishly engineered,” with a “ravine-deep neckline, thigh-high slit, double-fastened straps, and open rib cage, secured by a half dozen pronged Medusas.” Versace himself denied that Hurley even had a fitting for the dress, that he just “knew [she] would look simply bellissima, perfetto.” We think Gianni, who died in 1998, would have been gaga for the update. Tell us: do you think Gaga pulls off the look?
