Cool Girls Write: Pippa, Lena, Alexa to Publish Books

Oct 3, 2012 @ 6:51 pm

What do Pippa MidletonAlexa Chung, and Lena Dunham have in common? They’re all about to be published authors, developing books about the topics they know best. Up first is Pippa Middleton, whose Celebrate: A Year of Festivities for Families and Friends lands on shelves October 30th and will have us all partying like royals soon after. Model-designer-TV host Alexa Chung plans to release her yet-to-be-titled book in September 2013, which will dispense her copious fashion knowledge and reveal her style icons. Funny gal Dunham, meanwhile, hopes to keep us in stitches with her book, Not That Kind Of Girl: Advice By Lena Dunham. If it’s anything like her HBO series, Girls, we can expect lots of self-deprecating real-life confessions. Looks like we’ve got all our bases covered!

Felicity Blunt’s Nanette Lepore Wedding Dress: Details from the Designer

Oct 3, 2012 @ 6:46 pm

Felicity Blunt looked lovely in a custom-made Nanette Lepore gown to wed Stanley Tucci this weekend! The construction of the bride’s sleeveless dress—featuring a belted waist and feminine bow—matched that of her bridesmaids (except for the bride’s illusion lace overlay), including sister Emily Blunt. And it’s the first time the New York designer ventured into bridalwear, which is why she was thrilled to see her finished products walk down the aisle in person. “I just did a wedding for the first time,” Lepore told InStyle.com during New York Fashion Week. “My bride was very calm and knew exactly what she wanted, and it made the process so much easier.” The pair had just met up with the designer several weeks prior to their matrimony, when they attended Lepore’s New York fashion show, where Tucci expressed his adoration for Lepore’s work. “She really takes chances,” Tucci said. “She has that singular aesthetic that is very much her, and an extraordinary eye.” As for dressing together—the couple finds inspiration in each other. “When we get dressed, we’ll meet each other at the mirror and will give it a little, ‘You’ve got it right,’ and then we’ll go off and have a drink,” Blunt told InStyle.com. “He’s got such amazing taste.” Now that’s love! Congratulations to the newlyweds.

Hart of Dixie Is Back: Get Ready for a Lot of Great Fashion

Oct 3, 2012 @ 5:27 pm

Last night, 1.54 million viewers tuned in to see Rachel Bilson return for the second season of Hart of Dixie as Dr. Zoe Hart, the big-city doctor transplanted to tiny Bluebell, Alabama. While her alter-ego was down south, the actress herself was in New York City for Piperlime’s shopping soiree, where we found out what you can expect the Doc to wear on future episodes. “[My character] dresses very fashion savvy, but it’s also sophisticated and put together,” Bilson told InStyle.com. “I like that balance of fashion on a sophisticated woman.” Last season, she wore pieces from Alexander Wang, Chanel, and Michael Kors, and this time around, look for another heavy dose of powerhouse designers (like the Vanessa Bruno and Kate Spade New York combo shown here), plus more bags and shoes from Bilson’s own line, ShoeMintTune in to see new episodes every Tuesday at 8/7c on The CW.

Barack and Michelle Obama: 20 Years Together

Oct 3, 2012 @ 5:11 pm

Awww! President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary today, and the President sent out this adorable tweet earlier today: “Twenty years ago today, I married the love of my life and my best friend. Happy anniversary, Michelle. -bo.” The pair met at a law firm in Chicago in 1989 when Michelle (neé Robinson), then 25, was assigned to mentor Obama, a 27-year-old law associate still studying at Harvard. This sweet video will give you all the details you can handle about the First Couple’s history together. “I figured out pretty quick that I wanted to ask her out,” the President says in the clip, and we can understand why: Not only has Michelle become one of the most powerful women in the world, she’s stylish to boot. Here’s wishing the President and his wife a happy anniversary!

Fashion Week: We Heart Hair Accessories

Oct 3, 2012 @ 5:02 pm

We can’t get enough of the bows and hair adornments that have been coming down the runway in Paris. Louis Vuitton showed models wearing headbands half way back on their head, adorned with bows in various colors. And at Chanel, Sam McKnight created a loose bun at the nape of the neck and finished it off with an over-size pearl. Other houses in Paris and Milan, including Fendi, Balenciaga, and Dolce & Gabbana also showed terrific ways to adorn hair. Guido, who styled hair at the D&G show, tied patterned headscarves on the models’ slicked, pinned hair. “The up do is all about the scarf and working around the scarf,” he declared.
