The Good Wife returns to CBS tonight! In anticipation of season four, InStyle.com headed to the show’s studio in Brooklyn—yes, it films in Brooklyn even though it is set in Chicago—to find out everything about the beautiful, resilient character of the show that’s entirely silent… the wardrobe! The man behind the designer looks you see on Julianna Margulies’s Alicia Florrick, Christine Baranski’s Diane Lockhart, and Archie Panjabi’s Kalinda Sharma—from Alexander McQueen and Nina Ricci to Burberry and beyond—is costume designer Daniel Lawson. “I’m really lucky I’m on a show where the wardrobe tells a story,” he told us while walking amongst the dozens of racks, each one filled with carefully handpicked clothes. “The women on this show are high-end women. We didn’t just want to have boring looks, we wanted them to be feminine and be strong, and that was really where we started four years ago. This year, we’re continuing and expanding on that.” Go behind-the-scenes of the entire costume department of The Good Wife by clicking through the gallery now. Then, tune in to watch the new season every Sunday at 9/8c on CBS, and follow Lawson on Twitter at @GoodWifeFashion for the latest designer details.

God, I love the clothes on this show! And I love this kind of behind-the-scenes stuff too.

Season 4 Episode 17. I thought the hat Robyn was wearing was really cute. Did someone make it for the show? I know a lot of people who would like that hat. Even be nice for chemo patients.

what is the brand of the watch that Diane was wearing in the 3-31-13 episode – it had a charm dangling?
