We’ve never gone to a fragrance launch party quite like this! Lady Gaga transformed the Guggenheim Museum in New York City into her own personal performance art space to celebrate the release of her new perfume, Fame last night, where she tackled the idea of fame itself. A three-story tall replica of the black bottle blocked the Frank Gehry-designed spiral staircase space, while Mother Monster herself rested inside, eyes closed, against a clock that read 15:00 (so obviously a reference to Andy Warhol’s “in the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes” quote). After photographer Steven Klein debuted a five-minute film about Fame (watch it here)—and this was the ‘What is going on right now?!’ performance part of it, which she titled “Sleeping With Gaga”—guests went up and put their fingers inside the egg-like shape to touch her hand while she slept, as viewers watched the whole moment transpire via livestream on littlemonsters.com. Even the tunes touched upon the notion of fleeting attention, with David Bowie’s “Fame” and Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” providing the musical backdrop rather than any Gaga tunes. “Lady Gaga is full of surprises,” said Jason Wu, who was on hand to witness the performance, along with fellow designers Marc Jacobs, Olivier Theyskens, and Pamela Love.
