Heading out this weekend? Get your small talk inspiration from some of the biggest stories of the week!

1. Fashion Week happened! Katie Holmes presented, Betsey Johnson had a birthday, and the Oscar de la Renta models worked pink streaks.
2. The Toronto Film Festival happened, too, and we had a portrait studio on-site.
3. Blake Lively got married in Marchesa, and she did it at the Notebook house.
4. Kate Middleton is in East Asia giving great speeches in custom Jenny Packham dresses.
5. Glee finally returned! Our favorite numbers so far: “Call Me Maybe” and “It’s Time.”
6. And Rooney Mara will co-host the Met’s punk-themed next fashion exhibit. Good call, Met!

Bobbi Brown’s Pretty Powerful Book Preview

Next month, the makeup pro will release her latest book, Pretty Powerful, which is filled with tips on how to achieve a flawless face—from a natural finish (BB’s specialty) to an ultra-bold look. The new tome ties in with the beauty guru’s recently launched Pretty Powerful Basics makeup collection. InStyle Honors Dr. Margaret Cuomo’s New Book: A World Without Cancer

What would the world be like without cancer? It’s a question we’re going to hear more often in a few weeks, when October turns into a month filled with pink-covered treasures, all in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness worldwide. InStyle kicked off its awareness campaign today over a private lunch hosted by managing editor Ariel Foxman honoring Dr. Margaret Cuomo’s new book, A World Without Cancer: The Making of  a New Cure and the Real Promise of Prevention. “Margaret’s book not only inspires us to dream of a new and exciting reality, but in the process, how to take an active role in our own lives and gives us the tools to do just that,” Foxman told guests, including designers Behnaz Sarafpour and Rebecca Minkoff (pictured), in the garden room of Michael’s restaurant in New York City. “Much more can be done to prevent cancer, and each of us has a critical role,” Dr. Cuomo added. “We can all contribute to a healthier environment, a stronger, more vibrant society, and, ultimately, to a world without cancer.” Read an excerpt of the book in InStyle’s October issue, on newsstands, Friday, September 21st, and order your copy for $27 at amazon.com.

The film industry’s Resident name-taker is back! Milla Jovovich reprises her role as Alice in the zombie-laden action thriller franchise Resident Evil, with the fourth installment, Retribution, hitting theaters today. While Jovovich is no stranger to the fashion world, having jump-started her career as a model before adding actress and designer to her resume, the multi-hyphenate shrugs off her usual sartorial tendencies (Chanel, Versace, Reem Acra, to name a few) and opts for more practical villain-fighting looks. Enter this skin-tight black number Jovovich pairs with a bondage-style corset for her most recent portrayal of Alice. We can’t wait to see more of the kick-ass costumes.
