Runway Looks We Love: Vera Wang

Sep 11, 2012 @ 7:58 pm

Vera Wang was inspired by the “beauty and sensuality of India” for spring. Accordingly, she took us on a decadent journey filled with hammered gold tops, tulip skirts, and lace gowns. While the show opened with a series of serene white pieces, the color palette soon shifted into richer tones like chartreuse, azure, cypress, and amethyst. Each of the romantic looks were finished off with chunky ribbon-tie platforms as luxurious and powerful as the designs. See our favorites in the gallery!

Runway Looks We Love: Rachel Roy

Sep 11, 2012 @ 7:55 pm

A skull and bird design, which was the standout print at Rachel Roy‘s spring presentation, was a perfect representation of the designer’s feminine-with-an-edge aesthetic. Spring is all about chic, flexible separates. Think: monochromatic suits, shorts and slouchy sweater combos, and wide-leg pants paired with silk blouses. Building on that versatility, the handful of dresses veered from cocktail length to floor-sweeping and showed incredible range. Adding a dose of sparkle to the looks were Rachel Roy jewels, piled-on in eclectic stacks for more of Roy’s feminine edge. See our favorite looks in the gallery!

The Talk Hosts Go Without Makeup! Would You?

Sep 11, 2012 @ 7:50 pm

The daytime ladies from The Talk are making headlines for hosting the premiere of their show yesterday without makeup and wearing plain white towels. Co-hosts Julie Chen, Aisha Tyler, Sharon Osbourne, Sara Gilbert and Sheryl Underwood went completely without makeup for the episode, and also skipped the hair products. The show’s guests, including Jamie Lee Curtis, also went sans makeup. The scheme was Gilbert’s idea, and she talked to Entertainment Tonight about why she suggested it. ““It shows that we’re willing to show parts of our lives that not everybody is willing to show,” she said. “We really are girlfriends and because we feel safe with each other, we’re willing to show more of ourselves to the public.” Tell us: would you go a day without wearing makeup?

Runway Beauty Looks We Love: Tory Burch

Sep 11, 2012 @ 6:35 pm

Stimulated by her global travels and the “American West,” Tory Burch created a truly awesome tribal meets bohemian beauty moment in her spring collection—(not to mention the clothes!) Mega-length fishtail braids and a minimalist approach to the makeup were the perfect complements to her departure from classic prep designs—the braids acted as an additional accessory. Eugene Soloman, who styled the hair for the show, told InStyle.com, “There are a lot of straw and weaved accessories in this collection, so I wanted the hair to have that look too.” Well, he can be sure we’ll be replicating these plaits ASAPit’s easier than it looks! We went backstage to get the complete breakdown—from hair to nails—so you can try your hand at creating the couture look at home. Click through our gallery to get the complete how-to, along with the products used backstage.

Tuned In: 5 Things to Know About The New Normal

Sep 11, 2012 @ 6:29 pm
The New NormalTrae Patton/NBC

The New Normal kicked off last night on NBC and we were thoroughly charmed by its mostly sweet, sometimes snarky (ahem, Ellen Barkin) characters. The gist: Goldie agrees to be David and Bryan’s surrogate, bringing along her daughter, Shania, and relunctant grandmother, Jane. A new episode airs tonight at 9:30 EDT (in case you missed the pilot, you can catch up here) with the freshly minted family unit, shall we say, getting acquainted? Nothing like a meddling grandmother to stir the pot! Click through the gallery below to see 5 things you really need to know about Glee creator Ryan Murphy’s new show!

Runway Looks We Love: The Row

Sep 11, 2012 @ 6:03 pm

For spring 2013, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were in a romantic mood. Their soft, layered collection featured muted tones (with a few shots of red), rich details, and long, flowing hems. Each look, even the strapless evening dresses, were paired with minimalist flat sandals, giving the entire collection an effortlessly cool feel. See our favorite looks in the gallery!
