The action’s up here, people! InStyle is in Canada for the annual Toronto International Film Festival, where we set up a purple-walled and zebra rug-covered pop-up portrait studio in the Windsor Arms Hotel so some of our famous friends can come say hi. “I was here for the first time five years ago for Juno, and the feeling then was really special because here was where everyone realized it was going to be something big,” said Olivia Thirlby of Dredd 3D, who trotted into our studio first wearing a ladylike Kate Spade outfit. “This year, it feels kind of similar.” It’s a special feeling all around, more celebrities told us as they passed through, like the Argo cast (including director and star Ben Affleck, who picked up pal Matt Damon’s water.org filtered water bottle), and Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks, wearing a fitted Bird jumpsuit to promote her new flick, Ginger & Rosa. And it’s only getting started! See more photos and get all the behind-the-scenes dish from straight from Toronto in the gallery.

If you live in or are visiting New York City this weekend and your Fashion Week invites got lost in the mail, consider this plan: Do a Pippa crawl! Pippa Middleton has crossed the pond to visit her publisher, Viking, about her upcoming party book, Celebrate. And though she may have come for business, she’s certainly sticking around for pleasure, taking in the U.S. Open and kicking off Fashion Week with Andre Balazs at the Standard Hotel (not to mention vacationing with the hotelier in the Hamptons). See where else Pippa has been this week and click through the gallery to see her favorite Big Apple haunts, complete with directions so you can follow in her fashionable footsteps!

Bachelorette Comes Out Tonight! All The Stars On Their Wardrobes

Sep 7, 2012 @ 6:41 pm

Bachelorette comes out tonight! The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, and Lizzy Caplan as three girls who are asked to be bridesmaids for a girl (Rebel Wilson) they used to ridicule in high school. InStyle.com caught up with all the ladies at the film’s L.A. premiere last week, and they had a lot to say about how their wardrobes (created by costume designer Anna Bingemann) helped them create their characters. “To see that each girl can be fashionable but also have her own quirky style, and when you saw all three of them on screen it would feel complete,” the film’s writer-director Leslye Headland told us. “The character’s costume is their armor. It’s what they protect themselves with, especially dealing with female characters that are all about their image.” Click through the gallery below to hear all four girls talk about their characters’ styles and see the film in a theater near you starting tonight!

Runway Looks We Love: Jason Wu

Sep 7, 2012 @ 6:21 pm

Jason Wu‘s collections are always pretty, but this season he added a tough sexiness to his softly feminine designs. Inspired by the “provocative, erotically charged,” work of Helmut Newton and “soft, dream-like” images by photographer Lillian Bassman, the designer sent strong yet airy looks down the runway—many of which were adorned in grosgrain or leather harnesses. For accessories, ladylike leopard print bags and pearl-studded patent leather pumps emphasized the designer’s dual inspirations. See our favorite looks in the gallery!
