Ann Romney gave her first big speech last night at the Republican National Convention last night, and she wanted her look to reflect the importance of the moment. “It was going to be like my wedding night; I wasn’t going to let [Mitt] know what I was going to wear,” Politico.com reported. In the end, she voted for a belted A-line design by Oscar de la Renta in a bright red hue that played off the main color of the Republican party. Representatives from the label tell InStyle.com that the cardinal silk faille dress is from Oscar’s pre-fall 2012 collection, and is available for $1,990 at the designer’s stores (visit oscardelarenta.com/stores for a list of locations). As for her choice of designer, the American label is known for dressing First Ladies—de la Renta was famous for dressing Jackie Kennedy in the ’60s. That said, his pieces have not landed on Michelle Obama, and he famously spoke out about her decision to wear foreign designers rather than American labels last year. So, do you like Romney’s look? Tell us in the comments!

Plus, try on the candidates’ hairstyles!

I want one and I’m looking forward to four years of great fashion geared to a sensible, classy and timeless First Lady Romney.

You LIED Ann because you said initially that your husband picked out your dress then you said he had not seen it before your speech! You and Liar Ryan are a good pair!!!

I was stunned to see that that was a designer dress. I said to my husband, during her speech, that with all her money you would think she would be a better dressed woman. She always looks wrinkled and out of place for the moment, to me – loud colors and styles that make her look frumpy and heavy. Perhaps it is the clothes she picks, as de la Renta is a fabulous designer -she might just pick things that don’t flatter her body type.

Ann Romney looked absolutely Beautiful! Very regal looking!

I agree with Chris. Her dress did not fit well. If I were to spend just under $2000 for a dress I hope it fits better. But then again, I cannot afford a dress at that price or even a fraction of it. It seems odd to me that a great deal of time and effort went into letting us know how the Romney’s are in touch with middle class americans and then she shows up wearing a dress that costs more than all my summer wardrobe put together.

Hi, relating to linen and fabric, do you have any idea about the best way to care for silk sheets when washing them? Thanks
