Tune In Tonight: Your Last Chance to See Olympic Gymnastics

Tonight is your last chance to watch the ladies of our Olympic gymnastics team compete! Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman competed in the Beam Finals this afternoon, while Raisman and Jordyn Weiber each did a routine at the Floor Finals, and all of their performances will air on NBC starting at 8 pm/ET tonight. We won’t tell you who won today—no spoilers here!—but we will say that, as always, our girls gave it their all. Maybe that special message from the Vampire Diaries cast gave them an extra boost!

Remembering Composer Marvin Hamlisch

The lights are shining a little dimmer on Broadway this afternoon: Marvin Hamlisch, the composer behind classics like A Chorus Line and Barbra Streisand’s “The Way We Were,” has passed away. The 68-year-old pianist, who had amassed countless Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, and Tonys over the course of his career, also added his touch to soundtracks for The Spy Who Loved Me and Sophie’s Choice. “He was a true musical genius, but above all that, he was a beautiful human being. I will truly miss him,” Streisand said in a statement released today. Watch Streisand perform “The Way We Were,” above, and leave your Marvin memories in the comments.

Video: The Vampire Diaries Cast Congratulates Gabby Douglas

Guess who loves the Fab Five as much as we do? The cast of The Vampire Diaries! After hearing that Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas is a huge fan of the series, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, and the rest of the Mystic Falls immortals taped this video (above) to congratulate “the flying squirrel” and the rest of the women’s gymnastics team on their many medals at the 2012 Olympics. Addressing Douglas, Dobrev began, “Hi, Gabby! We heard you are a big fan of The Vampire Diaries. All of us here are big fans of you, too.” Then, the rest of the cast popped in to applaud the other girls on their All-Around medal, and they wished Douglas and captain Aly Raisman good luck at the Beam Finals tonight. The girls even got an air kiss from Somerhalder—too sweet!
