MTV VMAs: The Performances You Can Expect to See

The always pop-culture-moment-making MTV Video Music Awards are next Thursday, September 6th at 8 p.m. EST, and this year’s lineup gives us a lot to look forward to. Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Green Day, new CoverGirl P!nk, Alicia Keys, and One Direction are slated to take the stage, as well as relative newcomer Frank Ocean, and (just added!) Demi Lovato, who will perform at the pre-show. The VMAs always give us plenty to talk about (last year Beyoncé announced her pregnancy on the red carpet!), and this year should be no different. Nominees include InStyle cover girl Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry with her colorful “Wide Awake,” and (of course) Carly Rae Jepsen, whose “Call Me Maybe” is loved by everyone. The Blue Moon is Tonight: See Half-Moon Manicures!

Be sure to take a closer look at the sky tonight—we’re scheduled to see a blue moon! While the sky won’t actually light up in an azure haze, the term refers to the second rising of the full moon within the same month. There won’t be another blue moon until July 2015, so to celebrate the lunar event, we rounded up our six favorite half-moon manicures. The circular pattern is a throwback to Old Hollywood, and was a staple among silver screen sirens of the ’30s. We’re loving the modern twist stars like Katherine Heigl, Dita Von Teese, Jessica Biel, and Kendall Jenner gave the crescent design. Click through our gallery to see all of the looks now!
