2012 Olympics Fun Facts: Mary Poppins and Voldemort to Attend

The athletes aren’t the only ones we’ll be watching at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony! Friday night’s show will involve actors and actresses depicting some of Britain’s most beloved literary characters, The Sunday Times reports, including Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Captain Hook from Peter Pan, and Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmations. The performance will culminate in a battle between  Mary Poppins, Harry Potter’s Voldemort, and an army of Dementors. Our bets are on Mary!

The 2012 Summer Olympics is just about to begin, and we are so excited to see the five female gymnasts on the U.S. Olympic Team compete. While these girls are remarkably strong and determined, we love how they also know how to flaunt their personalities on the gym floor. Case in point: The Olympic Trials earlier this month, where each showed off bright, glittering patriotic leotards. Though they’ll be wearing identical uniforms at the London games—go Team USA!—take a moment to see their star quality shine through, leotard-style, in the gallery.
